EVs are running out of customers — and some dealers don't want them anymore
Yes they are….I just bought a new truck a couple of weeks ago. I got to know the sales manager and we were talking about EV’s. He said he had 2 Lightning’s that he can’t sell and has had for over 3 months. Noone wants them even with the $10k reduction in price. He stated that Ford mandates (like the govmt) if you want the vehicles you sell the most - F 150, you will have to order EV’s with them or you want get the trucks. So they have to order Mach E’s and Lightning’s to get the trucks that people want to buy.

A little off topic. I am not opposed to an EV. But NONE of the ones on the market interest me. Not a single one. I don't give a damn about the screens, technology, or the "efficiency". I want something small, light, and fast.

Actually, I take it back, I would 100% buy this type of EV:

Hello; Not really off topic. I feel partly the same way. I have little interest in the cabin technology. The tech that runs the drivetrain can run automatically (in the background). To me an EV with basic features which is cheaper than an equivalent ICE might appeal.
But i understand how things have changed. I have been shopping for a basic work truck type pickup lately. Hard to find and even when i find a reg cab+ 8 foot bed they are often loaded up with too much stuff.

Based on purchase price, fuel, maintenance costs, and depreciation over a three-year period, here's what we've found for the cost-of-ownership of our subject vehicles:

  • Mini Hardtop: $41,454
  • Mini Electric: $49,312
  • Hyundai Kona: $39,817
  • Hyundai Kona Electric: $55,311
The above is without tax credits

Sounds like he told you what you needed to hear. Sure he didn't need any issues at his dealership. He deals with people like you all the time. Poor guy. ☹

You purchased a truck, he got your money, and everyone was good.

He laughed while you drove off in your overpriced dinosaur. :cwl:

Ford is retiring these three gas models to make way for new electric vehicles
Three gas-powered Ford models are out as the Blue Oval brand makes way for new electric vehicles. The move comes as the American automaker looks ahead toward its next-generation EV platform set to spawn a new generation of Ford EVs.
The time has come for the gas-powered Ford Escape, Edge, and Transit Connect to ride off into the sunset, according to Automotive News, as the Blue Oval brand makes way for a new generation of EVs.

Helllo; So he tells of a direct personal experience and you make stuff up out of thin air. Compared to what EVV's were selling at before there was a time of increased sales. Early adopters, people buying into the save the planet hype, people with enough extra money to try a new high-tech toy and perhaps those with other reasons. I continue to note you are not among them.

The more recent stories are about sales of EV's reaching a plateau. This is the story to pay attention to. If true such may mean the percentage of the population willing to have an EV has reached a saturation point. Getting a greater percentage of the population to buy an EV may depend on the various applications of "force".
You cite manufacturers dropping some ICE models. Of course, this has been happening. The companies are behind an 8 ball of mandates and legislation. To make lines of BEV's changes in the production lines have to be made. Bothe for production of the EV's and for the production of the batteries.
Add to those factors affecting companies are the punishing attacks on ICE platforms. Higher MPG averages are in the works along with more and very strict new emission standards.

Outside of the vehicle companies are the attacks directed at fossil fuel companies. From greater restriction on the ability to drill for oil reserves to the tactics making the price at the pump much higher. For an EV to be cost competitive with an equivalent EV the cost of fuel must be much higher.

If it turns out to be a fact even with purchase incentives and the massive "save the planet" media campaigns, that EV salles have leveled off, then the immediate future of the BEV is in question.

Goodbye; No EV for me at this point. EVs are not expensive to me, but I don't want one due to range -- as I've said 1000 times. But I already have a luxury car, no need for another. Get your truck yet?

Hello; Still shopping. Urgency is gone for now. My old truck has been fixed and is running well. I did go look at a new pickup last week.

Wish I were high sometimes, but alas, no.

Manufactures see the mandated/legislated future as EV's. I started to write it is funny how you are blind to the coercion involved. Then again it is you after all. Say you have a business and some authority tells you the traditional product cannot be sold new in six to eleven years. That any new product you will be allowed to sell must have all new internal operating systems. Operating systems difficult and expensive to make which also will make your main product inferior to it's current iteration. So yes, with all those conditions I suppose the car/truck makers do sort of see the future as EV's.

Not sure how you spin my preference for an ICE into being an advocate for OPEC. But it is you after all. No spin or exaggeration is too far or too much. The thinly veiled threat is also noted.

Hello; The OP was baited by you and the usual gang. I sent him a private message warning about the tactic. You and the crew you cater to are more of a cancer. He crossed lines of civility and decent language in reaction to the baiting.
