I've read about this noise numerous times on the forum. After 2 days of owning my 2015 GT PP I can tell you the fix. It's the syncro's making this noise because they have to abruptly stop the gears from spinning. It typically happens at a stop light after sitting in neutral and you press the clutch and put it into first gear, and sure enough 'thud'.
The answer is to put the car in second gear briefly then put into first gear. This slows down the spinning a bit and allows the syncro's to work better. Problem solved.

My Focus ST has this exact transmission thud; it's trans is also made by Getrag. I'll have to try this tomorrow on the way to work.

Believe me it'll work. Just tested it time and time again.

That's funny, I found that if I push the clutch in a few times, that works too.

But, what about the shift from 1st to 2nd ???? what prevents that thud??

For thuds running up the gears you need to keep the engine RPM's higher instead of letting the RPM's come down between shifts. You can feather the throttle a tiny bit as you're shifting to keep the RPM's up....and like magic no thud and smooth shifts.

For "slow acceleration" you can also go from 1st to 3rd. That is a good way to do shift these too.

After driving nothing but T5Zs and Tremecs for my entire life Ive decided this is the worst feeling shifter Ive ever driven.

There is a delay on engine rpm coming down from what I have observed shifting... its been f #ing me up doing shifts

I noticed too that when shifting between gears, upon disengaging the clutch, RPMs jump a bit like if I was still accelerating. Could have been just me getting used to the feel but I noticed it while test driving.

Regarding the thud, I hope they figure out a better "fix" than having to shift into second then first every light, that seems ridiculous.

Agree, but think it's the nature of the beast.

I don't think it's that bad overall (doesn't drive me nuts), but it is perhaps worse overall than other sports car I've owned. The throw is shorter than some and it's fairly quiet - great, but the feel is only mediocre and that's the most important to me. You can definitely feel some 'mush' in the articulated joint on the shifting arm.

There are always aftermarket options if the shifter bothers. I will most likely do a better shifter and mounts. But the synchro issue not something I can just FIX without swapping out trans or opening her up and figuring it out. Regardless you'll be out $$$ on either route.

Funny how the GT350 has a different MT and GT500's stay away from the Chinese quality as well. Wish they could have put a 6060 in ours...

I agree, the transmission is butter smooth IMO. It's got better notch feedback than my 2012 Getrag. I love the way this transmission shifts.
