Hello everyone so I’m getting ready to upgrade my wheels and tires pretty soon. I have a 2020 Mustang GT Premium non PP full stock in iconic silver. The wheels it has rn are TRASH in my opinion. It’s sitting on 18’s and I think they’re 235s all around. So I’m upgrading to RTR Tech 7 in gloss black size 19 with Nittos 555 G2. I was thinking of doing 275 front and 285 or 305 for rear. I can’t decide between 305 and 285? I live in ATL so weather is bipolar, some days sunny some days Thunderstorms. And this is my only car so I daily it and put a lot of miles on it. It’s fully stock and planning on keeping it stock for a while. So what would fit me the most? I want that aggressive look but reliable car. Is there really a difference between those 2? Besides the width and look? Does it affect how the car drives, performance? I got a Quote from American muscle on how much it would run me with everything and I’m also getting the Eibach pro kits. Could I get some help please? I have 0 knowledge on wheels and tires

With the up’s and downs in weather you stated, I’d go square set up 285s or 275s all the way around all season. If you go with a staggered set up in nasty weather with the bigger rear tire you run the chance of throwing that rear end out. I live in AZ where it’s hot and dry majority of the time so I went with staggered 315 rears.

Keep your stockers for winter.

You can't really see the width difference unless in certain position and angle behind the car. The 285 vs 305 are close enough in size that I don't think either will have a performance advantage. Speaking of performance, the only way I would run the Nitto 555 g2 is on the fronts only when matched with the Nitto 555 rii drag radial on the rears. There are many better tires, performance wise than the Nitto 555g2. I would recommend the new Continental Extreme Sport 02. It is cheaper than the Michelin Sport 4s but very close in performance. As the above poster stated, you may want to consider a high performance All season tire. The Michelin AS4 and Continental ExtremeContact DWS 06 Plus come to mind as great high performance all season tires. I have multiple vehicles and have run all of the tires I've mentioned. There are others, of course.

What about Mickey Thompson they’re pretty popular but are they good? American muscle has 285/35r19 and 255/40r19 for the Mickeys.

I would go 285/35/19 for the front. A 275/40/19 is taller than the 305/35/19 and they will be in front. It will give the car a negative rake. A 275/40/19 is 27.7" tall while the 305/35/19 is 27.4". Not enough to give you an issue with the StabilityTrac, but raising the front a tad more giving it a rearward facing rake. Also, you may save some money by reusing the OEM TPS sensors.

Here is my car with 285/35/19 and 305/35/19, they are Michelins but you would get the point.

I went with 20's but I did 275 35 front and 305 30 rear. They drive really well and the offset I went with looks killer. That said, the Nitto 555 G2 I am not impressed with at all. They are really greasy (slip a lot from a launch) until they really get warmed up, If you have an option for Michelin I would get them. I got mine from LMR.com and they give the option of Nitto or the Firestone Firehawk. That said I have a set of Michelin Pilot All Season 4 on my stock PP wheels (255 front 275 rear) and they actually grip better than the 305 Nitto's, and work in cold temps. I will run those in colder weather and save these for warmer months. I'm in East TN so that's about 7 or 8 months warm and 4 or 5 months that are a little colder.

Get a square set-up, so you can rotate your tires and increase the life of them. 275 is plenty of tire, and it's an OEM size for rims, so you know they'll fit.

Also, don't get those Nittos. Get Conti Sport Contact 2s, Pilot Sport 4s, or Firestone Indy 500s.

No, you don't need all-season tires.

The Mickey Thompson that comes in the package deals are almost as greasy as the Nitto. I started out with those.

I am in GA also and haven't found the need for all-season tires...I do have to admit I have another car and try not to drive the Mustang in crappy weather. In 3 years, I have run 4 different sets of tires. My current summer tires Nitto rii drag radials on rear with matching Nitto g2 on the fronts in 275/35R20 and 305/35R20. I am on the second set of rii for the rear. My current fair-weather tires are Continental ExtremeSport 02 in 285/35R20 on the front and 305/35R20 on the rear. I bought my first set of Velgen wheels and tires as a package deal from LMR and it came with the Mickey Thompsons, which I ended up selling. My second set of Velgen wheels were bought wheels only so I could decide which tires.

I started to do that. I wish I had got wheels only and ordered a set of Pilot 4s tires from tire rack. Just a pain in the rear to haul it all to a tire shop and get them mounted and balanced. Live and learn...

True. I didn't notice that. I'm 10 wide front and 11 wide rear.

Tirerack will ship the tires and rims directly to your tire shop.
