Im not rich, far from it. But i don't see how asking someone for their approval on something like this makes for a "good" or "healthy" marriage. To me thats like putting a leash on me everytime i want to do or buy something. It would make me feel constricted. I already go through that with my parents. I don't need someone else telling me what i can't and cannot do. That is not a healthy relationship in my mind.

My wife and I put everything into the same account, and everything is paid from the same account. We are in this life together, for a long ass time, and who else can offer sound advice regarding a 35,000 dollar purchase that you'll have to live with day to day? I'd venture the one who also sees your finances and lives with you every day.

Then again, when I asked my wife if I could get one her exact words were "I seriously don't care, I just wish you'd go buy one so you'd shut up about it!".

I've been getting the same thing from every single person I know ever since I first decided to buy one in May. I can't have a five minute conversation without mentioning it.

I have shown pictures of every single car I can find that looks like the one I ordered to everyone I know, every time I see them. When they roll their eyes at me I remind them of how many pictures of kids, puppies, and kittens I have had to endure

not gonna happen either. i always go with her when her lease is up for her nissan and we get a great deal on another one every time.

you CANNOT have a woman go to a dealership on their own.

although she was the one who bargained the guy down from 379/mo to 199/mo the first time around.... LOL

You are assuming it is her money. All couples are different. I have friends who have one checking account and they both work. There is no his/hers and they discuss big purchases. I have other friends with separate checking accounts, both work, they split bills, etc. The latter always seem to argue about money. I have a handful of friends whose wives do not work nor do they have kids. They probably don't discuss money/purchases/etc nor do they likely ask their wives for permission, have never really asked them though so I can't say.

my wife makes slightly more than me and we dont have kids. all of our accounts are joint as well, but i handle the bills/finances.

Lmao you definitely have never met my mom or sister. Send them to a car dealership and wait 7 hours. The sales guy will call you begging to let him sell you the car at invoice and to please ask the nice ladies to go home so he can curl in a ball and have a good cry.
