trust me they'll break the code.
I'm thinking with the s650 it'll have to be a piggy back module.
But I've also read on a Ford site, ALL NEW MUSTANGS will constantly 'phone home'. If it detects any anomalies it will disable certain modules and force you to bring the car in.

There will be work arounds. If not, they will effectively kill the brand that is keeping the company at the forefront of the aftermarket hobby for 58 years.

I don’t think they want to kill mods. I think they ultimately want to restrict you to aftermarket products that a) pay ford for access, which will per the contract offer b) only emissions compliant calibrations.

As I alluded to, that would include the likes of Roush, maybe livernois, and maybe Whipple. If it goes this direction, it will probably force the small timers out and the medium sized companies (e.g. Lund, PBD, vmp) to either make a bigger investment or just not tune the new cars.

Lund will never tune it if FORD is running the show.

Roush is out. Whipple is in. New gen 6 being launched for the s650. Already selling gen5x for gen4 F150 speed density though Ford Performance.

Everything gets unlocked, everything. There's a huge aftermarket for these things, you'd be insane to think that collective mind cannot find a way in.

Most of the time when an application needs real security and absolutely cannot be allowed to be hacked, it is achieved through obscurity. Just hiding the device, not letting people even have the access needed in order to develop an exploit.

Any device sold to the general public will be exploited if there is a desire to. For example, every iPhone has an exploit. Even with all of Apple's weight and expertise they cannot prevent people from doing it. It doesn't matter if the device in question "phones home" it will still happen.

The only way it wont happen is if ford gives the community an easy way to adjust the ECU, in all cases the only way to prevent piracy/exploits it to make it easier for people to do what they want legitimately. If they make it difficult or impossible to do above board then you can promise yourself that there will be a hack in short time. Netflix reduced piracy because it was easier to pay $7 a month to watch whatever you want, now that you need 10+ subscriptions people are pirating again. The same logic applies here. The Streisand effect, the more you try to keep people out the more they try to get in.
