My car recently started leaking oil slowly. I took it to the dealership under warranty and they said they can't warranty it because the oil pan is dented. It looks like it hit the power steering rack and pinion hard which caused the dents. I did get rear ended pretty hard earlier in the year but I don't know if that is the cause. The leak is coming from the oil pan gasket so maybe it tore on impact. Any ideas what could have caused this? The mechanic said if I replaced the pan and gasket that it might just happen again. Should I just keep the dented oil pan and replace the gasket since the pan now clears the rack and pinion better due to the dents? I might be able to replace the gasket without lowering the subframe to take the oil pan completely out. Has anyone run into a similar issue or have any advice?
