I have a 2021 GT Mustang

Is the stock oil pan plastic?

AND

is the drain plug plastic?

If yes to either

Is it beneficial to (nextoilchange)

switch to metal parts?

The Coyote oil pan and drain plug are both plastic.

Unless you have a unique operating requirement, are making some serious engine and car updates, etc., I'd leave the oil pan alone. Millions are in service without an issue.

To the plug, some do replace the OEM plug with an aftermarket, primarily for convenience.

Many of us service our vehicles at home. If removing the stock plug, 10 quarts, 9.5 liters of oil will take the path of least resistance. The end result is a large stream of hot oil in need of control to the drain pan. Aftermarket plugs help with that.

Ford plastic drain plugs are one-time use items. I'd treat these like the traditional drain plug gaskets: virtually all of those are one-time items, but most of us use them several times before replacing. It is cheap insurance to replace at every oil change.

Ford and aftermarket plugs will need some attention with use. O-rings may eventually shrink and leak, if using the same factory one several times. Aftermarket plugs are generally made better; their o-rings will need replacing over time. You could use either for years without an issue.

If you send your vehicle out for service, these points are probably moot, but either plug could be an issue. Some don't know the factory plug doesn't unscrew. It's not threaded like a traditional plug. If using an aftermarket plug, the tech might not understand how the release valves work. You'd have to explain that to them.

UPR and Femco are two manufacturers of these plugs. There are probably more vendors out there.

If you haven't changed your oil before, I'd look at at least one video. It's like unlatch, quarter turn and then it is free.

Both are fine. Only issue I've ever had is when aftermarket drain plug with valve opened itself after running a cone over. After this event went back to OEM plastic plug and it's been fine.

No big deal. I did swap out mu drain plug for a UPR because it has 2 orings vice one and it is easier to grab and release.

Funmoto make s a brass 1/4 turn one that makes draining easy. I have one of these on the F150. They don't make anything for the plastic pans yet.

I have a 2018 GT and have used the same drain plug but purchased some O-rings to replace the one on the factory plug. I have been using them since 2020 and have never had any problem with leaks from the plug. I purchased them from globalindustrial.com Inventory stock # B2272251 OR USE THIS LINK
https://www.globalindustrial.com/p/viton-o-ring-dash-208-pack-of-5?q=b2272251

They are $6 for a pack of 5. Global Industries is not a car parts manufacturer, I just measured the one I took off my drain plug with a set of vernier calipers and ordered something from them that was the same. I have only used 3 in the last 6 years as I do not change them every time, but I ordered 2 packages as there is a shipping cost and figured I would purchase enough for all the oil changes I would ever do. I doubt Ford has changed the oil plug in the last 9 years but you should check to see if the oil plug from a 2018 GT has the same part number as your car. If it does these O-Rings should work fine.

I'm using the UPR standard one. Has worked well. Magnet on end. No complexity like the valved ones.
