Need people's feedback who have installed a sub enclosure in the trunk with separate amplifier. I installed Dual 10" dual voice coil woofers and a Class "D" amplifier. Did you install a capacitor? Do your headlights flicker when running the amp?
Thanks for your help.

I did not run a capacitor when i ran my system. I only had 1 jbl 12" in a box with a 500 watt class D amp. The rms on my sub wasnt crazy high so i had alot of adjustability from that amp. I gave it around 200 watts to it @ 2ohm. I ran it with 4 gauge wire and ground cable. didnt have any light dimming at all. Its gonna be all about your equipment. Get the right size wires and amp to power your stuff, and you shouldnt have issues. If your subs require high power and your amp struggles to provide then you'll have some issues, and running a capacitor and possibly a second battery would help.

Am I reading this right?
You installed 2 subs, both with 2 voice coils each.
How you wire this? will be key to what ohm load that amp see's. If what I listed above is correct, 1st question is WHY? and 2nd. post the way you wired this "system".
My gut, is telling me, the way you wired the 4 voice coils to that amp is susp.

Wiring up 2 DVC subs is doable, but yes like you said.. to what ohm load, and also what amp you have powering them. Also the wire gauge you use. You really gotta check the numbers your amp is putting out. Is it a mono amp, 2channel, or 4 channel? and your speakers rms.

In my car I have a total draw of about 500W to 600W. No capacitor. No flicker.
How many watts does your subwoofer amp draw?

It's only when you get up to 1000W+ of true RMS power consumption that you need a cap by the amplifier(s). Even then, that's not a guarantee that lights won't flicker. The purpose of a cap is to ensure there is sufficient voltage AT the amplifier, not the headlights. A long run of 4 gauge power cord from the front of the car to the amps in the rear will drop voltage across it during intense current demands (I.E. deep bass hits). The cap helps act as a local buffer to help maintain system voltage only at the amp. It doesn't do shit to help the rest of the electrical system. If the car's voltage is fluctuating enough to see dimming headlights, a high output alternator and second battery located in the trunk are a better idea instead.

As far as sound quality goes, a cap won't make a system sound better unless the voltage dips are short and fast enough that the cap can "fill-in" thus preventing the amplifier from clipping. In this situation a capacitor can only help as long as it can maintain the voltage long enough to keep the amp from clipping. Longer deeper current demands from sustained bass notes, can deplete the capacitor and it then becomes useless.

Oh, I know it is doable. but if wired for a 1 ohm or less load and a run of the mill amp.

Oh ok i got what you are saying now. The OP didnt say the amp specs so who knows.. So reading our posts so far and getting in the audio section will point them in the right direction.

We don't know what ohm each single coil is, is it 4 ohm, 8,etc. He left a lot of needed information off the table.

Hi. I was just asking for those that installed after market subs to get their opinions and experience as to whether our mustangs which are pretty finnicky had any issues.
** I just finishes my Sub Enclosure and Amplifier Install
1: Custom made, Birch wood, Dual 10" Sub Enclosure (Non-Ported) .8cf per chambered
2: Two each Kicker 2ohm, CVX102 COMPVX 10" Dual Voice Coil woofers
3: Kicker CXA1200.1t, 1200 Watt Class "D" Amplifier, Variable Boost, Start Delay, Sub Sonic Filter, Bass Remote.
4: Two Each Focal 165CA1 SG2 6.5 rear deck speakers
5: Installgear 4AWG, OFC, Pure Copper Power wire
6: Skar Audio, 12AWG Elite, OFC-True Spec Speaker wire
7: Installgear 0/2/4AWG Inline ANL Fuse Holder
8: GearIT 24K Flex Bannana Plugs for Sub Woofers
9: Leige Audio 0/2/4 IN, 4/8 out Copper Power wire Distribution Block.
The system even the back Focals are Great. I can actually hear and adjust my rear deck speakers to even out my front and back sound. The Bass hits fast and as hard as I desire. I play mostly Old and new Rock, Classic and current country and some top 40. So I designed my system for the music I will be playing.
I routed the power wire through the battery box to the underside to where I could route the wire through the fire wall grommet. I secured the wire in the battery box with Adel clamps. I used Grommets on both holes I made in the battery box area and treated "ALL" Bare metal with a Anti-Rust, Anti-Corrosion treatment application. All wire are hidden, secured, protected within the system. The Amp I mounted to the Pass side of my Sub Enclosure. The AMP ground is less than 12".

Wow, looks like some fun work you did. Seems like you had it under control the entire time. LOL.. enjoy the system.

This was challenging to say the least. I installed to where I would have a clean, usable trunk and everything hidden. But, I will say. Putting the speaker grills in and new speakers I can actually hear good quality sound from them. Before, nothing. But, this did add weight.

For me just making the change from my OEM speakers to aftermarket made a difference. I had a sub in for a while but i blew that sucker after a few months just havent got around to replacing it.

For the Back rear deck speakers which I could never hear music from, once I replaced them and put grill covers over them to allow the sound to go through the rear deck panel without being muffled by the closed, covered panel.

I have a JL Audio 500/1 and 300/4 amps. I used a 1 farad capacitor for reassurance. I dont have any low voltage issues and no blinking of the headlights or interior lights at near full tilt. Just spend the money and get a cap. They aren't expensive
