The biggest issue I have with the GT is I can’t stop spending money on it. Can’t imagine I’d have that issue with an EcoBoost…

The non-v8 mustangs (excluding the SVO) used to be for people who wanted the look but probably didn’t care or couldn’t afford the performance, and no doubt there’d be no mustangs at all without them. Since 2011 the base mustang engines all kick ass. They readily compete performance wise with more expensive hot hatches at a much lower price, better looks and rwd if that matters to you.

I think both v8 and V6/EB owners should think of them as different cars at different price points.

Good way to put it. I traded in my 2016 V6 for my ‘22 GT. The V6 was a fun car and I really enjoyed it but the GT is in another league. The price I paid for my V6 was good value for 300hp, but for 450hp a modestly equipped GT is just as good a value in my opinion.

this is what i keep trying to remind people of. every mustang is a good value at its price point. the hpp EB, for example, is essentially a GT with a RS motor swap. the HPP with handling pack is like a GT PP1 with a RS engine motor swap. for 7-8G's more you get a coyote, which is extremely reasonable for that performance bump.

but if you want a nice quiet quick car and never go deep in triple digits a standard EB is a great buy.

gone are the days where ford makes a shitty mustang.

1. i'm absolutely convinced i would've been perfectly happy with the HPP. they're a hoot.
2. I'm also absolutely over the moon with how awesome this GT is because this thing is an absolute animal.
/thread.

The only regret you will have will be the idea of “why the fuck did i kept a 4 cyl mustang instead of the V8 for this long…”
Come on out to an autocross and I'll paddle your ass red. Then you might understand.

a lot of people don't get that the turbo cars have more usable torque. these V8's like to rev out to make all that power. its a feature, not a bug, but also why the EB cars are so popular and useful.

if its a stupid question raised by your assertion what does that say about your assertion?

I was talking about store bought options...

...but since you mentioned it none of those things will thread the needle as nicely as the current iteration of the mustang GT does.

I know because i spent 3 years fixing all the problesm in a fox platform and in the end came out with something that was a total track weapon but laked the sophistication of these modern cars.

when i say balanced i don't mean balanced handling or performance. i mean overall balance. total package.

nothing comes close to the current mustang GT.
Nice pivot of the goal posts (new vehicles only).

Well, im also a fan of the s550 Mustang GT so im not sure how we even got here. Ive got one parked in my garage right now that makes 1k horsepower with a motor I built with my own two hands. There aren't many folks who've had one of these cars further taken apart than myself.

My original comments were surrounding build quality and other redeeming features of the GR86.

I couldn't agree with you more. It's exactly the opinion I've had for the EB. Yes, it's a Mustang. So naturally people want to compare the V8. But, I'm like, compare it to other turbo-4s and it's easily the best bang for your buck. Much like the GT has generally been in the V8 category.

Bullshit. I could afford anything I wanted. I wanted an HPP because I compete with it in a very specific way. My car makes *way* more low end than a Coyote and I'm carrying around 200# less on the front tires. Further, I drive a ton for work and I can knock down 27-28 mpg *on E30*. I'm about 350 HP to the wheels, so close to 400 at the crank. That's more power than basically any Mustang prior to the Coyote. For all your bluster, you don't don't have much on me except a little bit in straight-line speed and sound. If you need that to feel your pee-pee is appropriately sized, don't let me stand in your way.

I don't mean to come across as rude, so I hope it doesn't read that way. And I've been avoiding getting into the middle of this back-and-forth you and @AvalancheSVT have been having. But to be fair, when I read Avalanche's comments, I was always under the impression new, unmodified cars were indeed the criteria being discussed. So to suggest Avalanche moved the goal posts is odd to see, because it felt as though you did this yourself by introducing the idea of building something with a similar budget. Generally speaking, it's not a fair variable to introduce when we're talking about a group of people with varying levels of mechanical skills. Evidently you have skills that probably many of us in this forum can only dream of having. Therefore, what you could build with a $45k budget will certainly be much better than what I could do, for example. It's awesome that you're capable of that, and I'm certainly envious. But in fairness, much of what you have stated in this thread has been totally crapping all over the Mustang, especially the EB, indicating how other options are better. And that's certainly fair to point out I suppose. But, and I don't want to speak for others, at least in my case as the OP having indicated that I currently own an EB and now I have been considering trading it for a GT, it doesn't really feel great reading your comments. I was simply asking for people's thoughts on moving from the EB to the GT. I likely should've done a better job anticipating the "V8 or nothing!" crowd than what I did. But overall, many in this thread have been very helpful and supportive. And it is something I have very much appreciated as I was making my decision. I have been unable to understand what your intentions have been in this thread, however. Either way, there's no need for any of us to be arguing here. Share opinions, thoughts and experiences; let's learn from each other! That's what I came for.

Did you reply to the right person? You understand I'm the OP, right? I have an EB that I love..... not sure why you're coming at me....

You‘ve inadvertently hit the nail on the head. Those things are exactly what I love about the GT, and why I’ll have the V-8 as long as they offer it. I doubt I’m alone.

Resorting to your last sentence usually means there’s no other cogent argument left.
