Hi all

I'm coming up to another oil change on the '18 GT and I'd like to move away from the fragile yellow OEM plastic Ford plug. I did some reading on this forum about the Femco product(s). From what I gathered, the M12x1.75 brass drainers will do the trick. With the horizontal fitment into the sump, I'm guessing I wouldn't need to get the compact model, and could go for the standard size model?

Does anyone know if this is the correct part / will this part fit? - https://www.femco.com/standard-sb-6090010004-m12x1-75-t9/

Where I'm a bit confused; there also appears to be this Femco product - https://www.femco.com/product/ford-oil-plug/ - and I was just unsure as to why. Is it just personal preference which you'd like to use? I'd hate to buy the wrong part. From what I can see basically one is solid brass and the other is plastic with brass internals.

I do wonder if https://www.femco.com/product/ford-oil-plug/ would be the better choice to avoid over tightening into the plastic sump - using a more OEM style fastening.

Thanks. :)

I just bought this, but I haven’t installed it yet cause I don’t need an oil change at the moment.

I suppose I’m not really contributing to this post… not sure why I responded then?
I think this is the better option of the two you posted though.

Although not Femco, both Ronin and UPR aftermarket plugs have come in for a bit of criticism on here lately - just do your research and choose wisely before moving away from the standard plug :like:

Thanks both. I'll keep reading what I can as well as I go.

My fragile yellow plug has made it 73k miles at 4k oil change intervals. I purchased an extra in case of issues because of posts I had read on here but it's still sitting in the bag.

On the other hand, I've had multiple aftermarket parts fail and cause issues in the last 4 years. Not so much with anything oem. Just some food for thought.

There are some bits wrong with it, I've read posts about issues (leaking and breaking) and I doubt these people are making it up. My personal experience is, it leaks. But I do agree, I've had poor quality aftermarket parts too. I'll keep researching. I may go with the Femco Ford drain plug as mentioned ( https://www.femco.com/product/ford-oil-plug/ ).

I have not seen any credible proof it leaks or got broken - there is couple of hundred percent more of them in operation than any aftermarket valve type plug (since it's also used on F150). However- if you've read post here about aftermarket products, you'd see that people (including me) dumped oil when they came loose.

There are absolutely no issues with OEM plug - it's such an important element of the system that if it was prone to failure, it would have gotten fixed by Ford years ago. Stop reading marketing nonsense.

Hmm so I guess when I was underneath the car at the garage having the alignment checked a year ago, the oil dripping out past the plug must have been my imagination. Look I'm not trying to argue, I only came to ask about aftermarket choices, seems to have stirred up a right fuss over nothing.

I'll just go buy another OEM plug from Ford and hope it doesn't leak.

Listen who is to say you didn’t have a bad one. It happens. Or maybe it was damaged by a tech during install. Who knows? And it really doesn’t matter. Go OEM or go Femco. Whatever floats your boat. :like:

You are right, could have been damaged by the mechanic who did the change. Or a bad batch. I'll just go Ford OEM again. You people have put me right off changing it for aftermarket. :cwl:

The one linked above is the one for 2018 up. https://www.femco.com/product/ford-oil-plug/

That Femco is the best choice. Drain plugs are their business for over 30 years and almost exclusively for fleet owners who won't put up with problems. You can even get versions to fast suck the oil out and pump new oil back thru the same valve. LoL

But any aftermarket will have the following benefit:

Control flow thru an attached hose to a receptacle. Less messy and allows partial drains for oil tests between changes or remove extra oil added for track sessions.
