JLT CAI Tune for 2020 GT Premium?

So, I'm going to be getting the JLT Cold Air Intake for my 2020 Mustang GT Premium. However, I noticed that in order for the intake to work properly it needs to be tuned. I was wondering could a speed shop just tune it or do I need to buy an actual tuner with the intake? If so, what tuner do you recommend going with it for the best results?

Good questions, the JLT uses a MAF housing larger than stock so transfer functions will need to be adjusted. You’ll need a custom ECU tune with the transfer functions changed to what JLT provides with their CAI.
Lund, PBD, AED, Wengerd and many others provide the transfer function when purchasing their tune.
The only other No Tune option is PMAS 120mm CAI. The PMAS No tune comes with a recalibrated MAF sensor that is adjusted for their 120mm MAF housing, plus PMAS has recently released a newer front fender well extension kit.

I would recommend against the intake. 18+ oem flows great but also keeps iats down. Iats on the open intake will be way higher. But if you are set on getting that I would recommend waiting to install and tune until additional mods are added to optimize. Long tubes, e85 if available etc. Would make it more worth it than just tuning for the intake. But once you do, if you go local make sure it's an experienced Mustang tuning shop that specializes in s550. But your better off likely getting a device supported by a custom tuner like Lund, AED, PBD etc. Decide which tuner you want to go with and then that will help decide which hand held to get since each only supports specific ones.

If a local shop does it you may have issues going back to stock because you won't have your own tuner device. Hit up a big name tuner and get an rtd for it with a tune. But if it's not too late to return the jlt you could probably spend the money somewhere else that would actually benefit performance. The jlt is great for looks and induction noise but not so much for performance.

I run a JTL cai with an E85 flex tune on my '18. I like having a tuner to use for other things other than just to load a tune. Even on 93 pump gas the car feels more a live. The IATs are only a few degrees above ambient while driving. They do raise at a red light but go back down while moving. I actually had a Roush CAI with the closed box before I switched to the JLT. Very similar IATs unless you're sitting for a long period of time but I prefer the JLT.

good point. what about the Injen Evolution intake? Ive heard a few positives about it and it seems to have a closed box.

suggestions on other things i could spend on instead of the jlt?

If it is, I'd move on to suspension and rotating mass weight savings. If your up for spending money jump straight into boost. Even low boost you'll be faster than 90% of cars out there and the coyote handles boost like a champ.

I would also not recommend an intake. I was super disappointed with my results with intake and tune. Basically made what a stock GT would.

If it is, I'd move on to suspension and rotating mass weight savings. If your up for spending money jump straight into boost. Even low boost you'll be faster than 90% of cars out there and the coyote handles boost like a champ.
In that case ill go to suspension for now. Im planning on boosting to around 700-800 hp in the future. I was looking at this suspension kit for the mustang by PBD. I know itll be a great hit for a boosted car but I dont know how much of a benefit in performance it would provide on an NA coyote thats near stock though.

In that case ill go to suspension for now. Im planning on boosting to around 700-800 hp in the future. I was looking at this suspension kit for the mustang by PBD. I know itll be a great hit for a boosted car but I dont know how much of a benefit in performance it would provide on an NA coyote thats near stock though.

alright good to know. how about that suspension kit? makes a good difference on an NA or wait til boosted to get it?
