That's an email nobody wants to receive!

"Dear future Mustang GT500 owner,
We'd like you to know that while we're working non-stop to deliver your very own Mustang GT500, some punk kid decided to steal it and go for a high speed joy ride... Here's a $50 gift card for your troubles"

This is the 2nd time this has happened in the last couple years. You think they would stop leaving the keys in the cars? Aren't these in transport mode? How fast could they have been going?

Its like dejavu all over again.

They are easy to take out of that mode if you know how.

And the punchline: some of the crooks were apprehended because they ran outta gas! Ha ha… anyone who knows these cars knows you don’t get many miles outta a tank full :)

They don't put much gas in those cars. I recall driving several off the lot and sweating it trying to make it to the gas station.

That’s taking “Drive it like you stole it” for its literal meaning.

One of the many reasons I didn't lift up the cushions on the couch as well as beg, borrow, steal or kill for the extra money required to get one.

"You'd be lucky to see 100 miles per tank"

How does this keep happening. I recall it happening to Chevrolet and dodge multiple times as well. You would think by now they would have beefed up their security.

Back when I was putting myself through firefighter school I was an industrial firefighter at Toyota here in Ontario. I can tell you that their security rarely go out into the yard, maybe 2-3 times a night, and mostly patrol inside; many times nightshift only has 3-5 security personnel on-site.

With the value of the cars that were stolen though I would imagine that Ford would have a permanent on-duty police officer on the night shift. Due to the number of cars stolen even if there was a security officer that was able to intercept they would be easily overpowered by 5-6 individuals or more.

They have modems in them - so wouldn't GPS tracking find the vehicle?
