Any other cynical aholes like me out there think it’s hilarious how people hated dealers for ADMs - but now that we’re doing it to each other, everyone is high-fiving over it???

I bet half of those ā€œI’d never pay an ADMā€ people have been happy to reference ā€œthecurrent marketā€ when reselling their cars today. The hypocrisy… I’m going to go find an ADM thread to troll ;)
Ummm, it’s called an auction. Bidders are entitled to what/how they wish to invest. Don’t worry about what other people spend their funds on, especially if you feel ā€œwe’re doing ā€˜it’ (whatever it is) to each otherā€.

Yes. But to truly give proper feedback additional information is needed. But compared to what’s on the market with 3k miles its probably 10k under current market price’s. Assuming its a real clean low mileage example.

2020 3k miles at $68,500 a good deal?

Does this forum have moderators? Unbelievable. The name calling and personal attacks displayed on this forum would send many on a permanent vacation based on the rules other forums follow.

Do we really care that much how others use their OWN vehicle, and for what purpose? When they sell and for how much?

It’s par for the course for the internet. Not worth letting get under your skin. My Grandmother use to say…. ā€œwell arenā€˜t you specialā€ā€¦ lol

Try the "ignore" button. I tuned that idiot out a long time ago and this forum became a lot more enjoyable.

As for moderators, I am unaware of who that would be these days. I bought an item from a seller on the forum a while back that was advertised as "brand new" but showed up with dirt and paint splatter on it. The seller told me to take a flying leap (a real class act) and when I reached out to the supposed moderator, I got zero reply.

I understand your sentiment for sure, my counter argument would be that the dealers were charging ADMs on these for the past 6 years even when the market really wasn't bearing that upcharge. Using limited supply of new models to squeeze 10k more out of a car where that 10k instantly disappeared was a jerk move. In today's market, the market is establishing an actual value for these cars now that new models are not available. If you buy an R for 100k today, it's likely still worth 100k tomorrow and perhaps 125k or more in the future.

The ADM hate was purely about it dealers using regional scarcity during a time when the market didn't really support it.

But to high deserts point, this is a capitalist country, consumers and suppliers are free to do what is in their best interest. As a consumer, I intend to always pay the lowest price possible and then to resell for the highest price possible. To do otherwise would be ruinous over the long term.

Was t it, though? Just like now - there were deals to be found but if dealers successfully found buyers at that price point - wasn’t that ā€œthe marketā€.

didn’t mean to kick up another adm discussion. It is more
Similar than people want to admit - the shoe is just on the other foot.

You’ve got to be kidding me… comparing ADMs to auction prices is apples and oranges. There’s zero basis to even debate the issue.

I'm with @stanglife on this one. MSRP means Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price. The franchise dealership system empowers dealers to set actual retail prices. That sucks when they charge ADMs or add high-margin extras onto a car or are generally sketchy. It also creates opportunities for bargain hunters to get good deals through negotiations. Dealers who want to ask a higher price for a vehicle (and pay the financing costs of holding inventory longer) are free to do that.

Same thing with private-party resale of used cars. You own it, you may be paying to finance it as long as you own it, and you can ask whatever price you want, even if that price is so high you may not sell it anytime soon.

In the future, as a response to customer complaints on widespread ADMs charged during the pandemic, among other things, we may see manufacturers put more price controls on their dealers/retailers. But I bet any changes will come in a way that has a neutral impact on dealers, such as introducing Minimum Advertised Price policies, like what Apple does, that limit discounting at the same time as upcharging. Be careful what you wish for.

It's pretty similar. The dealer who charges an ADM is trying to get more than what the manufacturer suggests.

An auction is actually a little greedier than a dealer who charges ADM, because you aren't even naming your sales price. You are trying to get the sales price up as much as possible by pitting buyers against each other for the chance to "win" the car.

Definitely there are little differences, such as the auction has a specific end date whereas the dealer has to wait for a customer to come to them.

Nothing wrong with either of them, but both can be annoying for a potential buyer.

Meh, I hear ya, but there’s no way two buyers slugging it out in an auction is anything remotely close to a dealer with a set-factory price adding on a surcharge.

One is the product of a truly free market working right, the other is simply greed. Thankfully, I didn’t have to deal with greed.
