This past weekend I was chatting with some friends about work. One of them is considering relocating to take a new job that will pay roughly the same as his current job, but taxes are less then where we are now. He seems to think it is going to work out well for him, but I suspect the grass isn't as green on that side of the fence as he does. The conversation got me thinking though, and I wonder is there really a significant difference based on location when it comes to taxes paid? I've never really thought about it since it will likely never apply to me, odds are I'll never leave the location where I am now.
As a percentage of your pay cheque, how much do you guys have taken off for federal/state/provincial taxes? I understand there are different levels based on income, but I'm more interested in seeing the results from a location perspective. For instance, on my last pay I had 31.5% taken off for taxes. Not really looking for the dollar amount as I don't really want to know what people make.
