So I just got my car back from roush a few days ago for SC install, tonight I noticed a weird vibration in the shifter so I jacked it up and crawled under there, a drive shaft bolt had backed out and was touching the shifter!

Anyway, reason for the thread, I noticed this pin on the passenger side of the trans that I could move back and forth like a half inch with a hole going up to what looks like the floor board directly above it. Any clue what this is?

You should have a counter weight there but apparently the pin fell out and yours fell off too. Best bet is call calimer transmissions and order a block off plate. I will warn you it's a pain to pull the rest of that assembly out while the trans is in the car but it is doable.

How did you go about removing the rest of the assembly from yours with the tranny in the car? I know that the counterweight is the cause of a lot of rattle in/on the MT82-D4. I would like to block mine off too someday, but would like more info. on how to go about it.

Put a jack underneath the trans and remove the tranny mount. Lower it as much as you can. Then getting to the 3 bolts is easy but once its loose its a very tight squeeze wedging it out of there. I ended up cutting one or two (can't remember for sure which) of the bolt flanges off with a Sawzall. It came right out after that. Getting the block off plate on after that is a piece of cake.

Once I pulled it away from the tranny it was easy to get a Sawzall up in there and this is where I trimmed it. You might luck out and get it out without cutting but I sure couldn't.

Did removing it eliminate the trans related rattles for you?

It did quiet it down some but I wasn't really paying attention to before and after. I was hunting for false knock and stumbled across the shaft sticking out. Took me a while to figure out what it was but when I finally did I replaced it with the block off plate hoping it was my cause of false knock.
