I have read plenty of posts regarding HUD (heads up display.) I've driven several cars that have HUD. Quite honestly, I'm not really a fan, I find them distracting. I get that it's immediate info (cool.) however, I enjoy watching the road, other cars and squirrels. Todays cars are are so packed with technology (center consoles with 87 buttons, switches and toggles. The computer screen between the speedo and rpm gauge gives more info than than all Apollo missions combined.) It seems it's unnecessary and to be honest not very visually appealing. What does it take 1/10 of a second to adjust your eyes south to get the info you need? I keen on driving by visual cues from the road and the feedback I receive from my own senses.

HUD fan or not???

An optional HUD would have completed the technology offerings for the S550. I wish it were an option...having MPH displayed on the windshield is really nice IMO. It's literally the only thing I covet about my friend's Camaro, which I ride in nearly daily to go to lunch.

Not a fan.

But I'm sure you could disable it. Wouldn't bother me, if HUD was included in 401a/201a or even 400a/200s packages.

Two things I would really like to have in my Mustang now that i've put some miles in one.

A HUD and a glass roof.

The HUD would be really useful. While I like the guage cluster, I find it a little cramped. It would be nice if there was a HUD button on the steering wheel to activate and deactivate the HUD. That would solve the issue for those who find them distracting.

The glass roof, well I'll explain that one whenever I get around to making a thread. :D

I had it in my first car, a Pontiac Bonneville SSEi, and you don't realize how incredibly useful it is until you've driven it for a while. It's especially noticeable when you switch to another car; like it's lacking something.

Fionic: Not really, I would find it very useful. At least for speed. Having an adaptation for showing you the distance before your next turn would be useful as well. Last thing would be, although I wouldn't really care for it, but a shift light that you could program yourself would be useful as well.

As I said before, I especially feel this way with the Mustang. Probably because I have gotten used to having my Garmin up on the lower left portion of the window. And it displayed current speed. Now that my mustang has Navigation, I don't need it up there. So i am missing that easy to glance at speed reference. It may not seem like much for those who haven't experienced it, but it's a dramatic difference in how much your concentration is taken off the road once you look down at the speedo vs having something right there in your face already. I can't explain it to you, and I don't think anyone can, it's just something you have to experience for yourself.

I think a HUD could be useful for putting navigation instructions in front of the driver. It might be easier just to see the next set of instructions in front of you instead of looking away to the screen or relying on the voice instructions.

That said, I'm not clamoring for it, and if it happens, it needs to have an off switch.

My brother was an Air Force Pilot. HUD displays are played all over the windscreen.
The Air Force found that 'low angle' displays were the worst...your eyes tend to stay down on the display. 'High angle' displays were the best...your eyes try to drop down away from the display. That's why laptop/cell stands are so bad...your eyes tend to stay down even below part of the dash.
So a low HUD should display the least amount of information to get you to move your eyes back up as quickly as possible.
My last car had HUD, it only displayed mph and I could use my lower peripheral vision to see it rather than staring at it,
