I'm literally seeing mustangs in my area that have been just sitting at the dealership since like February and nobody bought them and the price still hasn't dropped at all like wtf, don't dealerships lose money by holding on to cars like that? Especially since the roads will be filled with snow and ice in about a month? They planning to HODL through the winter like a crypto bro?

Ideally I'd like to get a used one but at these prices 100% i'm gonna order a new one even with the -10hp!

God that still hurts to say

I think, they bought them for too much, and then rode the bet of a buyer paying the overpriced amount, and now are in so deep, they can't move it, without taking a bath on it.
They played poker and lost.

It's market dependent. It's starting to unravel but uneven. Another 60 days should materially alter the outlook esp for summer fun cars.

Eg a 2021 almost new 401a car that got traded in yesterday only has a $2000 markup over what dealer paid for it. At 10pct below original msrp it's no great bargain but is bucking the trend.

The very same dealer has used 2017 gt base model no less at more than new prices.

This begs the question of how long is the real world wait for a new car - from order to delivery? 6 months, 9 months, a year?

There's so much stuff in container ships just stacked up off shore, the chip shortage that's still not resolved, a lack of trucking and rising fuel prices. All that has to affect manufacturing and pricing on new stuff.

So how long are you willing to wait for a new one rather than spend the money on a used car.

It won't pop.

The pandemic made almost every developed country throw fuel onto the economy to keep things from collapsing. This can only mean one thing, the value of a dollar has dropped. When you have inflation, hard-tangible assets and goods rise in worth (against a devalued dollar).

Eventually wages will also rise to meet the inflated dollar but that usually lags real inflation. There is also a double edged sword this time around because many in the population came out ahead from the pandemic so they are sitting on a lot of both savings and assets which is also driving up the prices of goods with supply limitations.

Currently have a trx on order, looking at a January build date and late February/March delivery. Ordered about 2 weeks ago. I’d say the 6 months is a fair time frame. Prices are what you find. Dealers like granger are doing 9K off on the trx. Making it a no brainer to stop waiting for our raptor build which has been stuck unscheduled for about 4 months at this point.

You just have to shop around, and unfortunately travel or arrange shipping.

The dealer I bought my last 2 Mustangs from has 54 in stock and all except 4 (2 Machs and 2 GT500s) are under MSRP. It cost me $700 to get them shipped, but still came out on top compared to buying locally and paying full price.

agreed, you wanna hear crazy? i traded in my 2014 3.7 back on july 29th as a pre-trade towards my order (that i’m still waiting on lol) and they gave me 16k. Now, i could’ve gotten a little more i think, except the carfax showed 1 accident, which wasn’t really an accident, but i called the cops in because a woman tapped my rear quarter and tried to run. no damage whatsoever, but unfortunately because i called cops, it showed up. so i couldve gotten maybe 17k or so. however, i was more than happy with 16, as only like two months prior to that, KBB was showing like 12-13k. So i did it, no problem. they turned around and sold it for $21,999!!! i laughed so hard because the sticker on the car when i bought it back in 2014 used with 6k miles was $20,500 hahaha…ridiculous! i only racked up a few, so it had 31k on it and it was a very clean car…but still! i couldn’t believe it…and the car sold with only one markdown on the website to $21,500….crazy it sold for more than it did in 2014.

Do we need to bribe you to disclose the name/location?

Hello; Much will depend on our mindset. If a person can wait that may work out better in some ways. The inflation is not going away to be sure. Too much money printed and too much debt so the dollar will be worth less and less over time. Less buying power. So while waiting may be some better than paying an outrageous price now, it will still will not be pain free. Waiting is my plan so far.

About the current parts and vehicle shortage. That will pass. Perhaps a better way to put it is things will normalize or the whole business will crater. There is more to the current problems than new cars being delayed. There is a concept of "tipping points". Most I am familiar with are about natural issues, but I can picture them being found in business. The lockdowns, social behavior mandates and throwing money at the pandemic will continue to have ramifications.
It is already known many small businesses have folded due to the policies. They just did not have the percentage of cushion to weather the continuing financial storms. I do not know how the big companies are doing in terms of a cushion to ride out the economic problems we now face.

Add to the current active pressures on most business which includes offering higher wages just to try to get someone to work, there are looming mandates to do away with the ICE and move onto the more expensive EV's. I just have no idea how long a car company can stick with the ICE models under the current conditions and be ready for the mandated changes in a little over eight years.

I have been looking at older Mustangs in the 1995 to early 2000 model years lately. There is an associated issue with prices currently in that some sellers are trying to get inflated prices same as dealers. I have two offers out on cars to sellers if they cannot get the higher price they want. I tell them I hope for their sake they get the price they want, but if things change to let me know. So far the strategy is not working. The cars are still for sale with the owners holding out for the hoped for higher price. I may wind up without a Mustang. I have transportation so will not be walking. I do not need a third car, just want one.

A tactic companies can use is spinoff. If Ford were to start a small company subsidiary in some legally accepted fashion the Mustang could survive as a niche vehicle from the subsidiary without being affected by the mandates of EV.

I have been wanting to buy a new SUV for the last year. But I will NEVER PAY over MSRP on a car and feed this stupid rip off shit market. Plus, I am saving allot of money by not buying a new car which gives me more money to blow, Oops, I meant spend on my Mustang Toy while stored this winter. Got to Love It.
