I don't think there would be too much of a difference between the GT and GT performance package 1, nor between the M1 and Bullitt, at least in stock form.
Really the Power Pkg GT, Bullitt and Mach1 should be almost identical. The question is can FP add in a bit more power due to not having to SELL the car with the tune, since it doesn't have MPG goals to hit.

Oh, I thought you were talking about the performance pack. Yea I would expect the power pack 2/3? to be similar- though do they offer it on 2018+ cars, or do they call it something else? I saw an air intake + throttle body + tuning kit offered on CJ for like $1k for 2018+ awhile back.

Really I don't care about +/- a few HP, the real gains are in the low RPM HP/Torque curves, which is just awesome compared to the stock GT.

Yeah I don't trust that. They were constantly trying to slip in markups when I was looking at a GT350 and Bullitt even though they were listing the cars without one.
They put it in writing and it s an ordered car. I see no issues so far and you deal with the owner.

Yea....VW makes nice cars, but anecdotally, the people who have had issues far outweigh those without.
Guess I got lucky with Tiguans. Twice. Knock on wood since the second one is still in the fleet.

I read plenty of VW horror stories before buying the first, but at the time I liked it the best of everything comparable that I drove at the time so I decided to roll the dice; first import for me too. It became known as The Anvil, partially because it was Alpine Gray, and primarily because it was such a good vehicle all around. The only thing that it was ever in the shop for was a known design flaw, something to do with the intake manifold. Other than that it was just gas, tires, and oil changes. And it got used like a small truck.

Three years in on the second one, and nothing to report. It's been a repeat of the first.

The package on the 2018+ car is the same intake tube, TB, airbox as the Bullitt/Mach1 and a flash tune. So it would be interesting to see the differences when the only differences are the manifold and tunes. I suspect the FP tune may be a bit more aggressive since 91+ is required while I believe the Bullitt/M1 CAN use 87/89, but 91+ is just Recommended. So, the GT may have a bit better low end and MAYBE a little more top end.

Friend 1: MK6 GTI doors sagging and had to go to get adjusted twice, coil packs blowing, and a DSG failure
Friend 2: MK7 GTI DSG took a shit, twice
Brother: MK6 GTI blew coil packs till the engine just went.
Friend 3: Audi TT DSG and engine went

All swore off VW products after their experiences with those cars.

I have 1 friend that's an VW owner and NOT had issues, and it's with an Audio A4 S-Line.

Audi/VW has the highest failure rate of any maker I know of among people I know, followed by BMW. Which is not a great sign as MOST of my friends are Honda/Ford/GM drivers. The fact that the average VW owner I personally know have had more issues with 1 VW than I have had with EVERY car I've ever owned combined (And I drive like an asshole and beat the shit out of things) to me screams "stay away".

I'm astounded that VW ranks lower than Jeep on that scale. My '12 and '13 Wranglers were bar none the worst vehicles I've ever owned, and my VWs among the best.

I got to do a better test drive of a mustang on Saturday and it felt way better than the first time, as fast and fun as I was hoping. Definitely more fun to drive than the s5. I think the other one was acting up because they let me drive it while it was on fumes.

May not make a difference anyway. I live in Texas and every ford dealership around here is awful to work with. Trying to act as if their inability to get mustangs makes them “exclusive”. I’m about to give up on getting one.

Sorry, I don’t mean to derail. It’s just been an incredibly frustrating process.
I think we can all agree at this point that the dealership experience is awful across all brands; it's why companies like vroom/carvana/carmax were created.

Anyway long story short, look at ordering a car from Granger (a quick forum search will find many of their posts). They will give you 4% under invoice or ~8% under MSRP on a GT. Sure you will have to wait for it to be built, but on the GT's I think that's only 2-3 months? Shipping from Des Moines to Texas should be under $1k. And you get a new car with your exact spec. In the current market that beats the crap out of buying used for the most part.

On our 3rd Audi, no issues with any of them. I do think our new GT, non-PP rides better on rough pavement than the A5 sportback I had as loaner once when one of our Audis was in for yearly maintenance. Although maybe same ride quality in S5 compared to a Mach. I’ve never been in a Mach, but did test drive a couple PP’s, the one with magnaride obviously was much better than the one without.

As to folks with issues with certain Audi or VW products, seems true of a lot, if not all, manufacturers.

We absolutely love our new GT premium, but also same feeling for our SQ5. Not sure you could go wrong with either one, but as others have said you need to do what’s best for you. Go with your heart/gut…rarely, let’s you down.

Good luck and keep us posted here! :)

1) After 3 Mustangs I owned a 2011 Audi S4. 18 months of my life that I'll never get back. It was in the shop more than my garage.

2) The S4's performance was OK, not great. The electronics were an efficiency nightmare. Also, I unexpectedly did not feel like "myself" driving it. Hard to describe but it felt like I was trying to be someone I wasn't. Thank God that hunk of junk is gone and I'll shortly be back in a Mustang.

3) In spite of AWD, the S4 was basically undriveable in snow. Had to get a separate set of wheels with snow tires to get to work.

4) I have a good friend who works in finance for Audi USA. He told me not to base expectations for build quality for VW, Audi and Porsche on the brand you buy - base it on VW because a lot of the cars across the brands are the same platform made by the same assemblers.

I'm honestly amazed Honda is that low now. But isn't JD power kind of like the "magic quadrant" where the more you pay the better your raking can be?
I dont know if they are or not. I know that they seem to be the "Standard' I also like how people are always saying this car will always be in the shop etc...and you look and they are higher rated.

I had 5 Mustangs and never had much wrong with one. I had one in the shop to fix power seat, that's about it. My neighbor has an M4 with over 90k on it and never had an issue however, if you listen to a lot of people a BMW cant stay out of the shop. Time will tell I guess.
