I did some napkin math and the tax difference between netting out the cars vs having to pay full freight on a new one is only $1000. Seems to me you can make that up and MUCH more by splitting the transactions.

If you don't want to try talking the dealership into pricing the car at 22k per his ad, and giving you no less than 16k for your trade (and the likes of Vroom/Carvana/CarMax will give you that 16k or better).
Maxwell Ford sold that Mustang over the weekend (they actually took it off their website in a timely manner) so I plan to talk to the Naples, FL dealer about their silver one. I've written off the possibility of trading vs. selling outright. There are none others within driving distance.

How I feel about "advertised price" after some of the headaches I dealt with prior to buying my 19GT... ;)

I'm surprised somebody hasn't tried to make this slamming and cramming of dealer installed accessories illegal, but I guess you have the ability to walk away. It's just sleazy and underhanded, and a perfect argument for factory-direct sales.

that's pretty damn far afield of TX. Back when I lived in Naples I wasn't doing much Ford shopping, so hopefully you strike it rich.

Here's what the guy sent me. I thanked him for his time and said goodbye. I don't know if he was expecting me to counter on this, but he's so far off it's not worth my time.

Am I reading that right? They advertise it with a dealer discount off MSRP plus rebates for more off, but then removed the dealer discount and only took the rebates off?

yes you read it correctly. I'd say sloppy work by the sales guy but it's probably more of a case of confusing the buyer with numbers.

Around here, we call that the Pinocchio Theory and we all know what happened to Pinocchio when he didn’t tell the truth.

Not all dealers are like that. I never worry with the worksheet etc.......I do numbers before I arrive at the dealer. The ONLY number I care about (regardless if I am trading in a vehicle or not) is OTD price which includes taxes, fees etc. I could care less about how the dealer gets to that number - as long as they get there

Recently helped a co-worker buy a new F150. He had done all this research and I talked him into doing the math BEFORE he even talked to a salesman and come up with a number. So he did. He talked to two dealers. They both had the same optioned truck on their respective lots. He told them his OTD number. One dealer dragged their feet - the other dealer came back with asking him how he was doing the purchase - cash, outside financing or dealer financing. Sales guy told him he could get him his number if he financed with the dealer. He did - the rate wasn't horrible as I remember - maybe 4-5%? He refinanced it with his credit union a couple of months of later at a better rate.

Yep. We even confirmed on the phone that I qualify for ALL the rebates.

According to the verbiage of Ford's rebate, I don't qualify, as I wouldn't be taking my ST down there to trade it. So, I'm betting the price shown on their website isn't even the price I'd be presented with. I think I'm throwing in the towel on my search for a 2020, and going in this direction: I'm a big 3.7 fan, and this car is barely broken in, with a clean Carfax (not that Carfax tells you everything, but there's not much else to go on). https://www.carmax.com/car/19930505 If Carmax can take my ST in trade here in Dallas, and allow me to pick up the Mustang in VA myself, it'll save me around $800 in sales tax, and I can stop by & see my sister in Charlotte for a few days before heading home. New car, and a vacation. ;-)

Heh, I had bookmarked that car myself. Might as well stop by and meet a few of us. And pick up some upgrades...

I asked my local guy if he could get me a certain 2021 GT Premium from another dealer. When he quoted me the price I said never mind, I would drive down there and buy it from them since he added $1200 to their price. He said that was freight and everyone added that back in, and that since it is not their car, they can only offer so much. Understandable.

So then figuring I can save $$$ by going with a 2020, I made an offer on one they have. While poking around on CarGuru in the middle of the night I found one 100 miles away with the same options for $1k less than I offered. I want to support the local guy but want more cash in my wallet even more.
