They'd probably say it in a more professional way but that's exactly why they are locked. I wouldn't want someone stealing my tunes that can easily just copy it and modify the data but at the same time turning off emissions stuff would get them in trouble since they wrote the initial tune.
LOL. Nah, that’s not it at all. See the post above yours.

They are scared you will copy the tune and start "Billy Bobs" tuning service and sell the tune.
Well you go out and spend a 100G R&D'ing & vetting tunes so it don't blow your shit up, then freely give it to 'billy bob' so he can give a .25 degree less global timing & sell it for half the price as 'his' tune.

This platform has been around a long time. Only so many things can be done.

Think about how much better the drivability would be if they shared info.

LOL. 100g.... This thread keeps getting funnier and funnier. Nobody spent 100g to vet tunes. This isn't rocket science. Production tuning is a cash cow and the term "custom tune" is a giant stretch most of the time.

Skippy, go check out all the cars they bought for R&D and start adding up the pennies. BTW, I'm NOT Lund tuned.

So going with another tuner shouldn't be a problem then? or will other tuners follow this path? I have an X4 and will be going with AED this spring

No, it's their tune and they don't want you turning off emissions equipment in it because then the EPA monster is coming after them. That's why they lock them.

They also don't want you sharing the file and modifying it slightly taking away from their business from someone else who has a tuner license and can adjust the tunes.
bingo, they have a reputation to uphold and probably have legal counsel advising them as such based upon what’s coming down the line. Ripping tunes is just a perk I’d assume to save intellectual property, if this was their sole reasoning it would be done long ago.

AED will be fine, but just expect to get some large disclaimers up front and all of your emissions equipment and sensors will remain on.

The only local one that is known well thought the gt350 mani wasn't worth it over the stock gen 2 mani. Which is what I have a long with the GT350TB.

I don't think they shut off any of the emissions and sensors anyways though right?
