I bought a 2020 GT PP1 and doing research on buying a second set of wheels/tires for daily driving. I want to keep my stock wheels and tires but for fall/winter I want to swap them out.

I think I want a square setup so I can rotate tires. Looking to get something sporty but don’t want to sacrifice too much fuel economy and comfort.

There is a wealth of info in the threads but I’m having a hard time processing all the info. Confused about best width and diameter of tire/wheel setup to meet my goals. Note: I like the 19in wheels on there now and if I can go larger I’d like to. Can I? And what about width?

thanks!!

So your stock Michelin Pilot 4S tires are summer tires, not winter tires (so don't save those for the winter), but you can absolutely throw some winter or all season tires on those stock PP1 wheels and use them in the colder months.

For a good square daily driver setup, a 19x10" ET35-40 wheel is a very popular choice, combined with a 285/35R19 tire. You can also go to a 20x10 wheel (same offsets) if you like a 20, but honestly a properly offset (i.e. flush) 19" wheel looks great.

Other options - a 9.5" wide square setup in 19" or 20" is fine for a daily driver, but there are a ton of great 10" wide choices out there.

I just went with this exact set-up which is a popular one. Just be aware that many tires are not symmetrical or are directional and can't be rotated diagonally only back to front/front to back on the same side.....if that matters to you.

thanks for both of your responses. Any issues with have 10 inch on front w PP1? Just want to confirm. I read some place the larger brakes might require 9inch on front.

Any of the oem 19” wheels will fit over the front brembos. There are usually sets up for sale in the classifies section. They make great winter wheels.

Width is only part of the equation as far as clearing the front brakes. I would be surprised if just about any aftermarket 19 with the correct offsets didn’t clear them. Needing less width to clear them doesn’t sound like anything I’ve seen.

18” wheels that clear them is a different story and you need some specific, generally track oriented wheels for that size. But that doesn’t seem like what you’re after.

New car, open the glove box, you will find a shelf in the top.

In here there is a manual, for the car. Go to Ford, down load the PDF, educate yourself.

Above all take your time, get to know what you have. PP1 is not a Standard GT, things are different.

I don't own a PP1, when I purchased my car I looked over the PP1.

Do not remember the wheels & tires being staggered.

You mentioned "fuel economy and comfort" if this is the goal, leave the car alone.

Not that wheels & tires will hurt that. It's just a general statement with regards to mods.

there’s no trouble with the common 19x10 wheels designed for use on our cars. 19” wheels intended for our cars come in a wide variety of widths from 8.5” to 11” and not many will have fit problems with the Brembos unless they are trying to be a JDM or “3 peice” look or are a funny offset you wouldn’t want anyway.

I know you said that you want to be able to rotate these tires but that usually comes down to a cost concern, in order to get the longest life out of a tire. There's nothing cheaper than the tires you already have...so maybe stick with those as your sporty tires and buy another set for fall/winter? Besides, the stock MPS4s tires on your car are considered to be one of (if not the) best sporty tire out there.

Here's another suggestion; your car is a 2020 so there's a good chance that the miles are pretty low...which means that you could probably sell your stock wheels/tires pretty easily. From there, you can pick up two sets, one set of all season, one sporty/square setup. That might give you more flexibility.

Folks have made some good recommendations about wheel specs already. Based on my experience, if you focus on 19x10 wheels and 285/35/19 tires, the world is your oyster. You shouldn't have a problem picking a wheel style you like and there are many tires in this size to choose from.

Personally, I really like the SVE line available through LMR. They will all clear your Brembos, they're pretty cheap and pretty light too. I've bought two sets now, no complaints.

In this case, I don't know how the manual would help the OP. He's looking for a square/sporty setup which is something Ford doesn't offer on any model of the Mustang other than the PP2 which isn't going to help the OP. Ford will never talk about "off label" uses for their cars in the manual.

Besides, while I totally agree with the suggestion to read the manual for many other reasons, there's no shame in coming to a forum to ask questions. Plenty of people enjoy sharing their experiences and knowledge. When someone provides bad info, it's usually fact-checked within minutes by people who spot the mistake.

PP2 isn’t rotable square. The tire size might be the same, but the front wheel is a 10.5 width and rear is an 11. Ford was both a little conservative on strut clearance and performance conscious by putting some pre-stretch on the sidewall with the smaller width front wheel.

See what I mean about being fact checked? LOL.
Yeah, the wheels are different but it runs the same 305s around and I opted to add the exception just to avoid wasting anyone's time. I chose wrong.

I really appreciate the advice from everyone. As I dig through this I am sure I’ll have more questions. It is amazing how wheels and tires can get complicated and the options are mind boggling!!!

This is my current wheel. How can I figure out the offset? Nothing in manual and searching fords part site gives me conflicting info. It’s a 2020 GT w PP1. Would offset be different for front and back? I think I want to stick w wheels that have are the same size and offset as I have now.

Yes the offsets are different on the factory PP wheels, even the nickel five spokes you have. The factory rear PP1 19”x9.5” wheel has a +52 offset, and the front PP1 19”x9” wheel has a +45 offset.

Cool. Thanks. How does one find this info themselves other than asking an Internet forum?
