So far, we have gone(think I've listed them all):
Bullitt
Mach1
Bullitt
Shelby GT
GT500
BOSS 302
GT500
GT350
Bullitt
GT500
Mach1

What do we suspect the next refreshed "specialty trim" to be?

To me the Mach1 feels more like a BOSS so I feel that's off the table for a bit. I can't think of anything they could REALLY do to the current car to improve over the 2021 Mach1 to justify the BOSS name. I can see an SVO comeback possible or in a few years a reworked 5.2 for a new GT350 (do we know if any new research is going into the Voodoo engine?). I'm sure a hybrid is in the works, but I can't think of any current names that would fit it.

For the Mach-E I feel like a LIGHTNING name would fit for a performance trim, but I'm talking more about the coupe in my question.

Any names NOT brought back yet you'd like to see?

You won't see any more Special Editions on the S550. The Mach 1 will see us through the '21 and '22 model years.......then it'll be the introduction of the S650 for the '23MY.

I expect to still see Shelby models for S650, but whether that's GT350 and/or GT500 remains to be seen.

But.......I'd like to see the Mach 1 for S650 but give it the engine I always wanted........a normally aspirated 5.2 cross plane crank V8 with 525hp and 440lb/ft.

Will it happen? Unlikely, but I can dream :)

Whilst you're dreaming maybe the S650 would be the right time for a BOSS!

BOSS 429!!! Never happen lol
I’ve mentioned that one in past threads too - it’s the only historical Mustang that Ford has not retro’d yet.

I’d be willing to bet it’s coming with the S650....

Only if the 429 is something battery related instead of cubic inches. 429 duck power per electric motor? 429 wishes for combustion? 429,000 disappointed enthusiasts?

I agree... but 2024.5 - 2025 will see an anniversary model and an exclamation that the Mustang has lived through everything from Vietnam to Covid and is still kicking Camaro-ass when it’s in/out of production.

And that right there would have made me pop for the S550 iteration.....

With the horsepower wars in full effect (hybrid super cars and mega-V8 boosted powerplants), the GT350 doesn’t have a place.

That being said, the ONLY lineage in the Mustang’s history that has existed side-by-side, outside of a Shelby platform, was the Boss 302/429.

It wouldn’t be hard to have a true normally-aspirated 302CI pushing 500bhp for track carving, alongside a 6.8L punched out to a ~7.0L producing safely boosted producing 800+ bhp for 1/4-mi duty.

I do see how those could exist in the same lineup...

That is honestly what I was hoping the 2021 car was going to be.

How to you get to that HP number without the high RPMs provided by the FPC? Also - where did the extra torque come from?
