The body is galvanised, primed and painted. Look at the underside and you will notice the famously thin paint is even thinner where not on show to the customer. My red car is patchy red and grey underneath where ford saved money by using less red paint than on top.. Hence I think it’s probably a bit generous to say it’s sealed really well from the salt. Any small stone chips will instantly expose the steel to water and salt. Hence anything to make this less likely is a benefit if you live in a climate conducive to rust, especially with poorly surfaced roads.
Look at the underside pics of the red car further up this page to see how thoroughly the red paint was applied!! That example is especially patchy.
I don't think they intended to paint the underside red. That's likely just overspray from the top side.

The last few posts all make good points. v8hgt, I do hope you have a better than expected experience. Time will tell.
I've seen video that shows a multiple-step prep process for the entire frame/unibody is fully submerged in 2 or more baths of primer. So every surface and cracks and crevices get sealed and protected. The body color paint is not much of a factor in rust protection. Actually, the body color coat and clear coat are relatively weak and quite brittle. I have lots of rock chips and door dings on my Redfire 2005 GT, down to the primer, but none are rusting. I'll go have a close look later, but I don't think I have any rust on the unibody under the car. I live on the Gulf Coast, and while we almost never have salted roads in winter, we have a pretty harsh atmosphere. Salt-air combined with maybe 90+ days a year where everything outdoors is completely wet with dew (condensation) every night and morning. Sure, dew is 'distilled water' but all of the contaminates on the car are not, and it becomes pretty corrosive. 30+ years ago, all cars here would rust through the body panels, starting at places like the back window opening and other body joints, but not from underneath the car. It was different up North, where cars rusted from the bottom up.

Having said all that, even my 2019 GT has light rust at the edges of some of the stamped steel suspension parts. So yeah, those could be better protected.
Cheers!

Probably just for show. Not unlike how engine displays are done.
New here, maybe I shouldn't answer a 3 year old question....
My diff is not painted, but it is aluminum, so it only has the white-gray oxidation you'll see on Al.

I think only the differential cover is aluminum; check the front portion with a magnet. But I think in case of the differential, steel is probably better IMO, but not sure. At least the Torsens are steel for sure, but don't know if the clutch-type LSDs on non-PP cars are too or not. Let us know :D.

You meant NON-PP cars (both auto and manual) with clutch-pack LSDs, no? PP autos have steel Torsens as far as I know, but 3.55 gears, instead of 3.73s on manuals.

Yeah, but it's not a Torsen :D (not offered on non-PP Mustangs). Having said that, I don't understand why not an aluminum Torsen, when Ford charges so much extra for them. But in a way, it balances the car better. Ha ha. At least we have an aluminum engine block, for a less front-heavy car.

You could have the same strength with aluminum, but not sure how much bulkier it'd have to be. And the total weight savings. For sure iron is cheaper than aluminum, but maybe in this case (Torsen) is actually better overall to be iron than aluminum, while cheaper too. Who knows.

Gray undercarriage??? I could swear mine is black. At least the sub-frames are black. Will find out about the rest when I install the black Steeda goodies in a few days :D.

Late to the party but here are my pics original size.
Not sure if the headers are the same as 15-17 but I couldn't even reach my hand in to get my fingers on all the header bolts. Seemed like an impossible task to me, no way I would change those myself, even with the car flipped on it's side.

Just saw this post, mine I noticed is all coated in black(like a tar substance) I believe they do it a lot for the cars being exported, when being shipped to the docks from Flat Rock because of the salt put on the snow in winter?Mine is a 17 Jan build.Cheers:):)Ron.
