Hello, I'm new here but I'm on my third mustang gt. I purchased a 2017 gt earlier this year and have been modding it with all this downtime recently. I purchased 18' manifold, jlt intake, exedy stage 2 clutch (factory throwout bearing was squeaking) and ngauge with a tune. I also purchased the 87mm throttlebody but I didn't install it because my tuner said there are no gains to be made from it. THey said we can tune for it if you like but it will cost more. Of course I figured why would i spend more for no gain? So my question is, does anyone have a different opinion on this or are they pretty much correct in saying that the throttlebody, or even with my current setup i wouldnt see a difference. Maybe improved throttle response but if theres no power to be had i'm not too concerned with that.

I've also been told by my tuner that it will offer no gains NA, and it will cause more trouble than good.

Thanks, that what i feared since i purchased this from AM back in march it's well passed the return date lol. Guess I have an expensive paperweight then.

Depends, I'm sure you'll pick up something if using say a PMAS air intake. Plus the adaptor adds a little intake manifold volume.

That's baloney. I installed CAI / 87MM TB / tune, and am pleased with the results. I did the install myself. American Muscle has a video with the dyno results. The top-end results aren't amazing, but the mid-range bump is very usable. And when you think about it, you are always crossing the 4500-5500 range. You aren't always at 7200. Can you get more with an E85 or some other tune...sure...but also check to see if you can even get E85 at the track. They usually have 93, 98, 100, and 110...none of which are >15% ethanol. Some tracks might have it but good to check. And many tracks have a limit to how much fuel you can bring in.

However...not sure how it will work with the 18 manifold.

I think any gains that would be had are if you used a tapered bore adapter, or had a TB that had a tapered bore. It basically allows more air in but the tapered bore increases the air velocity. From what I've read, there's no real downsides to it.

I just re-read your original post. Considering that you are not using the Ford tune, I guess you need to default to the advice of the Tuner.

I don't think ford would have included a larger TB in the performance pack 2 calibration if it didn't help, at least somewhat. That being said, lots of tuners have a hard time dialing in the throttle bodies correctly because unless you got a ford unit (You didn't specify) then the values are not known or as reliable as the ford numbers. If you don't dial it in right, you get poor drivability.

I have one, but I can't say for sure how much it alone contributed, but the PP2 does give a nice dose of low to mid tq boost.

There can also be driveability issues like bucking, surging, stalling etc with after market TBs.

That said not sure I have seen anyone report these on the FP unit and tune, likely due to the known values.

The only thing I notice is a "pop" when I turn off the car. I read it happens on a lot of people that get the Ford PP2, and it's the sound of the blade closing. Otherwise, with Ford's values, it drives the same as before the change.

When you buy TB's like BBK.. they provide next to no data other than generic table. Motor speeds / electrical resistance / voltages / etc. Then again some people slap on the no tune versions and have zero probs.

No gains to be had with that unfortunately, return it or resell and buy something more beneficial. Those tend to cause more harm than good.

Well the Ford P-packs don't seem to have a problem, and LUND seems to have a handle on the tune for it.

Thanks for all the responses, I do have the ford throttle body the gt350 5.2 from AM. I purchased it after seeing their gains from the combo of intake, intake manifold, and throttlebody. I might just throw this thing in the marketplace for cheap since I don't need it. I'll have to check if there is a post minimum before I can do that but I'm not in a huge rush.

I'm using my 87mm TB from the PowerPack 3 kit and it works just fine for me. How much power its worth is debatable, but if you have the GT350 manifold and plan to use it, then you either use the 87mm TB or you have to pay and get the adaptor plate to use the stock throttle body. I made 442RWHP on a full bolt-on set-up on 93 on a 90+ degree humid day so I don't think the 87mm TB is hurting my #'s. I could easily pull over 450 on a nice fall day.
