Right it is not cheap, and my time is valuable. Spending it shifting wheels around on the side of some road. Really makes no sense for me.

Having reliable tools and equipment, makes life so much better. Have Miller welders, think buying some lame ass HF welder will preform the same ..... ?

My reason for not getting a spare (at least for now), is it's not a real solution for me. Like others, I wouldn't bother with that in town. And when traveling, my car would be full, and since a rear wheel/tire (the most likely to go flat) doesn't even fit in the 'hole', I'd have to leave either the expensive wheel/tire behind, or the luggage. On top of that, I'd have to spend $500, PLUS add almost 50 lbs of dead weight on the back, which already sits lower than the front. Have never needed to change a tire in my 58 years, so will probably just keep lugging my trusty Stop'nGo flat tire repair kit, air compressor, and a jack kit which I want to buy, in case I need to remove the wheel/tire, which is easier/safer than having to haul the car, and most likely end up with damage.

Those fix-a-flat cans are useless on moving flat tires. The tires are junk by the time you stop vehicle.
I keep a Milwaukee battery impact with a set of Husky impacts for most wheels.

My Grand Marquis got stuck in the mud the other day, pulled out factory scissor jack, set on a piece of square plywood I keep in the car, put the impact on scissor jack. Raised all the way up from fully compressed. Placed some logs under tire, repeated 5 or 6 times till I got the tires on solid surfaced. Backed it out.. took about 10 minutes. Never could have turned that jack that many times with that little handle they give you.
The jack works off same socket as lugs also, so if I had a flat I could use the impact to raise car to needed height. Takes maybe 30 seconds. Then remove wheels with same socket.
Trying now to figure out out to get one in Mustang. Won't fit with spare and jack in well.

On a small puncture they can work, but they're my absolute last resort. The flat tire repair kit I have (Stop'nGo) is the best I've owned by far, since it doesn't use any glue, and there's nothing to dry out. Last time I needed to use it was on my ex-M3 V8 over a decade ago, and it worked perfectly, even though it was over 10 years old. I have newer ones now on every vehicle I own.

You're absolutely right. I'm just treating this situation as you would with a tool you aren't planning on using more than one time. If I end up having to play tire shuffle in the middle of nowhere, then there's a 100% chance of me ordering the AA spare after I get home, lol. But until then it's better than the stupid inflator that probably won't work.

Yes that would be a game changer for sure. LMAO. As one Mustang owner to another ..... here is hoping you never have the need.

Inflater what a POS, any bets that people today will not stop. To help someone fix a flat cause they can't. Dumbest idea ever not getting a full size rim and tire for any car.

My luck, moved to GA. Pulled more crap out of tires the first years living here. Then the 30+ living in Miami, luckily found at home.

Taking no chances with the Mustang. What's the saying "life's a bitch and then you die....." Got to love it

Cheers
Pep

I grabbed a 1/2" breaker bar from harbor freight. I also purchased two sets of protector lug wrenches. So far they seem to work well. I keep the HF Black/red ones at home for all my cars and they come with two extensions and work really well..

https://www.harborfreight.com/12-in...ue-lug-nut-impact-socket-set-11-pc-69829.html

The breaker bar and HF lug nut socket set stay home.

For the car, I also grabbed this lug nut socket set from Amazon to leave in the car:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07VWM2R22/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I grabbed the set but you can just buy a single 21mm socket. For $29.99 / set or $10 each they are fine.

I also grabbed an EPAuto telescoping lug wrench from Amazon.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B071FV7XVM/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

If you do , get a separate socket. The one they sell with the telescoping lug wrench bar is not 21 mm and doesn't fit our lug nuts.. The bar does remove a 150 ft-lb socket.

I put my Ford Mustang jack, breaker bar and socket (and other things) in a Harbor Freight Hercules bag to keep the things organized. Do not recall which size.

These are not the best tools but I think they are as least as good as the average or better. I would have loved a set of MAC protector lug nut sockets but they were too expensive for how rarely I would use them. I do swap tires twice a year (winter and summer set of wheel/tires) Besides, they look exactly like the Harbor Freight ones and might not even be made by them. For now, this works for me. Good enough to do the job but cheap enough not to worry if stolen or lost.

They are 21mm, and THAT is the problem. They label it as 21mm (13/16"), and it can only be one of them, which is the larger size, in order to fit both. Our lug nuts are 13/16" when new, and even though 21mm is not far off, the extra play can cause damage with that high torque value. Having said that, if your factory lug nuts need a 21mm socket, is because they swelled (they're crap). What many of us do since day 1 is to replace the stock lug nuts with Gorilla (61148CX or BCX -black), which are also 13/16", and they'll never swell :). Hope this helps.

I think you are wrong. All of the aftermarket lug nuts say our nuts ARE 21 mm on the S550 Mustang.

In this case, the bar socket is not 21 mm. It is really 13/16". S550 Mustang are 21mm which is about 0.4 mm larger than a 13/16". That is why they do not fit.

I had a couple of scissor jacks kicking around, so I welded 13/16” nuts on them (same size as the lug nuts).

I can't tell you 100%, because I never tested the lug nuts on my Bullitt before tossing them in the trash can. But I'm 99% sure, because they're the same as my ex-2018 F-150 Platinum, and they were 13/16s. You need to try an actual 21mm and 13/16 sockets, and on NEW lug nuts, to make sure they're not swollen.

It is not possible that all my lugs are swollen. Also, I am the only one to remove the wheels. The S550 went metric on the stud as well as the nut. None fit the 13/16" all fit the same on the 21 mm. on other sites, they say they are 21 mm also. Prior, they were SAE.

Not doubting you but on my 2020 the 13/16 fits great and the 21 mm is too loose for me. I tried on two sets of stock lugs.

Receive the jack for the Automotive Authority kit. Jack nut is 13/16 as the lugs are for the wheels.. 21mm is close but not the correct fit

LMAO cannot pass this one up ......"all my lugs are swollen". AKA blue balls ????
