Carbon fiber wheel Damage

I am aware of the caliper clearance and yes we have pebbles in Texas but our etched concrete roads don't produce them like black top. Pebbles are typically around construction areas which I'm careful around and avoid if possible .

I don't do track days so they would just collect dust and not get used. I do about 3k miles a year. I knew the price of admission and accept the risk.

Got it ? “ ok” a dream day for Frank and crew of Spyder Composites at Willow Springs Raceway “ the fastest track in the West “ ; 10 ?( Trying to remember the number) GT350R’s with alloy wheels and the others without alloy wheels making a lap after lap and the experiences they had. All provided by Ford motor company, Running in a group the alloy wheel cars would get an uneven gaps and run quite a bit slower , The carbon fiber wheel cars the gap stayed the same and we’re approximately 10 miles an hour faster at the end of the straightaway.( all in the group were within one mph) ; The cars felt lighter with carbon fiber wheels accelerated better And breaking ; it was completely a different car ; I gathered from the conversation the cars were more consistent and easier to drive even though going approximately 10 miles an hour faster at the end of the straightaway; building confidence. alloy wheel cars at the end of the straightaway would be less controllable. While he told me his accounts of that day you could here his enthusiasm. On my personal limited experience with my R , Even though it weighs the same as my 2000 cobra R , it feels 500 pounds lighter to me. After the great experience of applying Adams polishes ceramic finish to the wheel. I’m going to detail the wheel well compartment and step and star torque the wheel back on to 150 pounds While signing “ Spring little cobra getting ready to strike” “ Son you’re going to drive me to drinking if you don’t stop driving that hot Rod Lincoln” , Four-speed dual quad posi traction 409, Tack it up tach it up , buddy going to shut you down and more lol PS I feel now that I’m going through a repair on one of these carbon fiber wheels , the fear is over and I can drive with care and enjoy and not fear! ( Frank said they will have the wheel for one week and three day shipping)

Pertaining to the fine hair lines that are found in the webbings , Frank at Spyder Composites said Ford found out that on the early production gt350r the paint would crack there and was not a defect of the wheel. So I hope this helps others that have early GT 350 R’s that if a hairline that shows up In the webbings it is not a problem ; it’s a problem with the early paints. ( my car was built May 26th 2015) pre production PP011

Pretty cool that you have one of the 95 Pilot Production GT350's from the 2016 MY.

I found it interesting that Ford did not build any 2015 GT350 PP cars with the 2016 GT350 PP cars being built 2 months prior to the 2015 GT350/R's being assembled.

Is your R equipped with the Electronics Package or is it a Base R model?

You must work for Ford oh by the way : my original pre production engine has a bar code number and not a matching vin stamp ( I think Ford made a secret high-performance engine out of this one and it’s got so much horsepower they could not advertise it) lol ! Frank At spyder Composites day the first red R is owned by a local Santa Cruz guy ; said Ford made a special paint job out of his by color sanding it and then re-clearing it after all the fit and finish was made correct)? He has had two carbon fiber repairs already and has a gazillion miles on the car

I have owned a number of Pilot Production Mustangs albeit they were 2012 and 2013 Boss 302 LS cars with all of these 3 cars coming with a matching numbers/date coded engine but none of the trannies on each of those 3 cars had a VIN etched into the transmission engine pad.

The two 2012 cars were built back in 2010 with the 2013 car built in 2011 and owned all three of those cars for a total of ~13 years between all of them and now they reside with good friends of mine.

Something a little strange about the picture that you posted for the engine block pad and sure would be interesting to view your car in person when on a lift.

I have attached a picture of "PP001" which is the very first 2016 Pilot Production R model along with a couple friends of mine namely Frank and Shawn cleaning up that car at a B-J car event in Connecticut.

Also have attached some pictures of the chassis badge along with the VIN which is 21 numbers after your car and just reinforces that fact that a VIN means nothing in terms of when a vehicle is assembled but with the chassis plate certainly being the key element with respect to consecutive builds.

Just for kicks I also included pictures of the very first regular production R model namely "KR001" and really like the Race Red and Black roof combination.

Wished that you were closer as would be a fun time to take a very close look at your cool Electronics Package Pilot Production R model.

There were a total of 37 2015 GT350 R's assembled with chassis "F0036" going to Jay Leno and chassis number "F0037" going to John Atzbach in Seattle with all of the 50th Anniversary 2015 GT350/R's being built at the FRAP.

Note that none of the 2015 R's had an "R" in the chassis designation.

Also, all of the 2015 GT350/R's chassis numbers matched the VIN of their respective cars and that was the only year whereby that took place.

Yes, remember looking at his R when it first arrived and found it pretty cool that he had the very first 1965 GT350R model/competition car and the very last 2015 GT350R.

It doesn't get any better than that and wish him all kinds of success in Indy with both of these cars and suggest that chassis "5R002" will set an all time record for highest priced Mustang ever sold at auction with that car.

I will also be there with my 2015 Track Pack car as I need to thin out the herd at my old age.

Only 42 miles on this car and still on the MSO and looking forward to seeing John's many cool cars that will cross the auction block at Indy!

Nice job of locating the numbers matching VIN for your 2016 Pilot Production R model and suggested that is was a matching numbers car.

I believe that all 37 R's for the 2015 MY were all built on July 13th, 2015.

WHAT? Amazing history; Like my 2000 cobra R all of them were built in a short period in March 2000. So my 2016 PP011 was built (May 26th 2015) almost two months before the famous “ 37” 2015 GT350R’s ? That’s cool And yes all three numbers match I’ve discovered ( Engine, chassis, door jam tag). I think I’m fortunate they put a G in the VIN to make it a 16 so I didn’t have to pay the price That a 2015 brings , even though it was built before the 2015’s ; On the subject of my carbon fiber wheel issue I decided now to take the right front wheel off and found out the monkeys that worked on it only had the wheels torqued to about 65 pounds and had used a air gun and had warped the lug faces
