The deaths are way underreported. They only count it as a Covid 19 death if you get tested. Many people that died have not been tested so it gets counted as natural causes or some other category.

What, recover in 3-5 days like 99.99 % of the human race?
Steve: Not quite correct amigo, the global mortality rate for the virus is hovering around 5 percent which means it's not a 99.99 percent recovery rate.

It means you have about a one in twenty chance of dying if you get it somewhere else in the world other than here.

The US rate is around 2-2.5 percent which is a lot better but still not even remotely close to 99.99.

This is serious, dude and I think you need to reassess.

And our death rate, let alone infections, haven't peaked yet.

Is there a website that tracks the infection rate and deaths, one that can be sorted for age and other health issues? You would think that information would be readily available and talked about with such a global pandemic

Has it been more lethal to Americans than a summer month in Chicago yet?

Q
I believe the recovery rate is hovering around 98%. With the majority or those dying. Being elderly or those with pre existing conditions. I get the point your trying to make. Being a relatively young, healthy adult. The odds are in your favor. But I think we need to all act responsibly. Not just for our own personal safety. But for our loved ones. I'm a certified adrenalin junky. But I also keep my ass out of Chicago's lower east side.

Darwinism will do what Darwinism does.
Yes, but irresponsible behavior effects more than yourself..... it affects others. That's the part some people dont get or care about so it seems.

on face the nation yesterday they said they are seeing about 20% recovery rate of those that require a ventilator. Scary stuff

BTown: I may be incorrect but I think that number was for those who reach the maximum ventilator usage time and are then taken off. Of those taken off, only one in five survive. I don't think it refers to all ventilator use where some are on one for a short period of time and then recover.

I read that if you are put on a vent, your chance of survival is around 15%.

Damn, I haven't seen that yet, Tom..thanks. Looks like BTown was correct after all. DAMN.

I have another couple hundred pair of 5mil nitrile gloves coming today and I'm glad I ordered right when things hit the fan. A bit short on masks but I'm disinfecting and re-using.

a medical grade UV lamp is probably best for that. Too many solvents and the masks will loose their effectiveness.

https://pksafety.com/blog/respiratory-basics-n95-vs-p100/

The letter is for relief. N= nuisance, P= oil proof, R=oil resistant

The number in a rating tells you the minimum amount of airborne challenge particles the mask protects against: an N95 mask keeps out at least 95% of particles but isn’t oil resistant, and a P100 mask is oil proof while protecting the wearer from at least 99.8% of particles

Edited to add:
Everyone is grabbing onto the N95 masks because they are the least expensive that appear to get the job done. P100 masks that are disposable are very expensive. A cost effective approach to the problem is using a silicone 3M respirator and P100 pancake filters, like the 3M 2091's, Exactly like the ones I am sending Jamie (hopefully today if I can troubleshoot the mini split in a timely manner).

At this point and knowing what we do Tom, I think the N95's and up should be reserved for health care workers. My logic is, if you maintain a safe distance from anyone outside your home, you probably won't experience an airborne risk.

I have surgical masks and should have some clear face shields soon.

As for sanitizing the masks, I'm only doing it once per to stretch the supply and I don't think a mild spray of very diluted Clorox water will decrease effectiveness enough to worry about for two uses. I hang 'em out in the sun and breeze to dry.

Thankfully, this SOB doesn't stay airborne long and in high humidity areas, it swells, so even less time in the atmosphere.
