Stock pp2 wheels and winter tires

Would it be possible to fit some 295/30/19 tires on the stock pp2 wheels?

I have two sets of pp2 wheels and want to swap one set to use winter tires.

(winter performance so i guess not true snow tires )

Any suggestions on which tires to use?

Out of curiosity, why do you want to got to a 295/30R19? That will make the tire smaller in diameter and further lower the car(slightly). Is this size for summer or winter tires? It would be better for winter to go slightly larger increasing ground clearance.

As for winter, I am running a set of Blizzak LM-32 275/35R19 on OEM wheels. They are a winter performance tire and I did use them in 3” of snow. They have nowhere near the grip of a 4S or Cup2 but are still a fun winter tire that handles rain and snow in colder temps. The snow handling could be better but I think that has more to do with the fact that they are a 275 (smallest that would fit the 11” rear wheels). I remarked in another thread that they were predictable and could drive in snow slowly. A firm throttle jab. Would loosen and wag the rear a bit even in Snow mode but it’s recovered very quickly.

Would I buy them again for spirited driving in cold weather and snow conditions, I would think so. I will get them in 245/40 or 255/40 next time for the new 19x9.5 wheels coming shortly. This size wheel can take my 275/35 as it’s biggest tire and when the 275/35 wear out, I will go down to the 245/40 or 255/40 on their replacements

Just a note, 275/35 on the OEM wheels make it very easy to scuff the rims so watch out for getting too close to the curbs

yup i think i will go with the LM-32 275/35R19. i was just worried about the fitment.

No problem. The guys were so great they even walked the rim on by hand to keep the rims nice.

a 275/35R19 is within allowable fitment range

Looking at 11" wide wheels, a 275 is the narrowest recommended.

Also looking at the chart, a 9.5" wheel can also take a 275 wide tire. this is why I (as you can see in the jack photo) am purchasing a set of VMR V710 wheels in 19x9.5ET22 for the front and 19x9.5ET45 for the back. I wanted to keep the track width as close to stock as I could. Yes, even though we lost 1" in width and stayed close to the 24mm offset, the front still stick out a little. That same day, I put on a set of RokBlox mud flaps to protect the paint as bit more. Also installed the BMR jacking rails this I were using in the shot. Makes life so easy to jack up a car. I am using jack stands but out of habit, I leave the jack with light contact in place in case something should happen.

I use this tire size calculator to see how different sizes fit compared to stock. It takes in wheel and tire data and even spacers to see how the resultant will fit.

In the winter, you want a narrower tire than stock. For snow, they often recommend going 1" or 2" narrower than stock. To minimize speedometer alterations( and possibly other things in the drive ability of the car), you should try to keep the diameter the same.

For a PP2, 1" smaller would be a 275/35R19. 2" smaller is either a 245/40R19 or a 255/40R19. The 255 will be larger. I have read they recommend keeping the change in circumference at or below 3% from OEM. Of course, the 245 or 255 will never fit a 11" wide rim. You would need a 8-9" rim for that (see chart above).

The reason for wanting narrower is the opposite of snowshoes. With snowshoes, you want a wide base so you will sit on top of the snow. For cars, you want to cut down into it and contact pavement. Narrower tires also help promote straight line driving since the contact patch is more orientated along the long axis of the car.


I will admit that the 275 were more snowshoe like but were far better than any summer tire and I am sure better than many ( if not most) all season. The winter tire is more pliable in cold temps and with al the sipes and channels, it will collect snow (a desirable thing) for traction. Snow grabs snow better than rubber does so collecting snow is a good thing.
