Painting brake calipers.

I will go to lowes tomorrow, get a nice 1 inch foam brush, and a nice art brush for the complicated areas. Will post pics

Clean well, brush the first few coats, then spray the final coats with the Preval system to get a smoother finish.

I didn’t get the preval sprayer. I watched videos and 99% people hated it with g2 they said it spits and spatters barely able to be sprayed

so all I have is brush

I will probably paint all 4 tomorrow. They are super clean, do you guys paint the entire back side of the front calipers where you can’t see too? Or just the front

I just painted what you could see. I didn't prep and paint the back side of the Brembos because I wanted as much paint as possible for the front sides and the rear caliper/brackets.

I used Duplicolor ceramic brush on coating on mine. Holds up excellent! Hasn't chipped or had issues for 2 years now. Prep, getting things clean and degreased is the biggest part of a successful job.

How much paint did you have left over when you was done, from not painting the back sides

The rear calipers are a rough cast aluminum. If you don't paint them, they will eventually look like dog shit. Especially on a daily driver and even worse when winter driven. As the aluminum starts to oxidize it will turn dark, then will take on the color of rust and dust from the pads and rotors as it bonds with the aluminum oxide. No cleaner will remove it.

If you really want to do a nice job on the rears, take them off the car and sand them smooth to remove the casting lines, then clean and apply the paint color you like.

Personally I think orange calipers looks really good with grabber blue. But red would be my second choice.

Not enough to do the back side of the Brembos if I did as many coats as the rest. But, I likely put on more coats than needed so, that's probably not much help for you.

In case I wanted to do that next time, that picture makes me think you did all that without removing them from the car. Is that right? And if so, did you post more about how you did it anywhere?

So I’m waiting for paint, all 4 of my brakes are off car. I have power tools, should I just get a little wire brush and the backs with power drill? That would make them smooth,
Should I do the front too?

If I make them smooth, do I need to do anything for the paint to grab and bond to them? Or scuff them w sand paper then clean them w brake cleaner and paint them.

should I leave fronts alone and just do the back with sanding/grinding?
Gotta go to Lowe’s for brushes anyway so will grab all at once

Unless you're smoothing them off with something higher than 600 grit you should have plenty of texture for the paint to stick to.

My kit arrived, I used a ton of brake cleaner on them, got them taken apart pulled the pads.
Letting the metal, and the containers of paint get to room temperature.


They are like 30* currently, so in another hour or two, I will be painting away.

gotta go to Lowe’s first get some brushes, I’m just gonna paint them, lol not feeling like sanding etc.


Think these look clean enough? They only had 1k miles on them before taken off. Barely anything came off.

Should I paint over the little silver pins or try and tape them off?
I could see that being hard to make perfect
