All adherents to Islam are not the enemy. The enemy are those who exploit Islam for violent purposes. As for tolerance and conversion, all religions have intolerant followers who are willing to use violence, to include Christianity.

While there are plenty of violent Islamic extremists who are self-motivated and best removed from the face of the earth (like Baghdadi), there are plenty who are radicalized and recruited by extremists. In short, the enemy's strength comes from his ability to motivate followers. We have to be smart enough not to provide fuel to the extremists by playing into their hands. Per the CT phrase, "We are not going to shoot our way to victory," or per Mattis, "No better friend, no worse enemy."

The point is we can only win through a sophisticated information campaign that undermines the enemy's corrupt narrative. Our actions and words have to match. Kill with one hand, while caressing with the other...
