Let's talk about the C8 vs the GT500

I would like that lineup. However, I have a really hard time believing the Z06 will be N/A and 600hp... Do you really think GM would make the Z06 have LESS horsepower than the previous generation? To me, that sounds like a marketing nightmare

I doubt it will be an issue. The target market for Z06 is more focused on actual performance than raw hp numbers. The ME setup is showing that more of the available hp gets put to the ground and performance improves accordingly. If the 600 hp NA C8 Z06 outperforms the 650 hp C7 Z06 on the track the 50 lost ponies won’t be missed. The 495 hp C8 Stingray already out accelerates the C7 Z06 0-60 with 155 fewer hp and just gets clipped by the C7 Z06 at the quarter. Put 105 of those horses back in and the quarter mile looks a lot different.

So it comes down to “what is Tadge’s team doing to make the C8 Z06 better on the track?”. I am not going to be one to doubt that they can nail the track calibration.

Yeah, the widebody / body differentiation is interesting for this new design. Clearly the C7 design (and even the C6 design before that), had room built in to allow for more fender/wheel/tire. I can't image more fender area on the C8, the proportions seems like they'd be way overblown. I wonder how much tire can properly fit under the current C8[?]

Put me in the camp of being skeptical GM would walk a model variant backwards in terms of HP, just from the pure marketing angle. C6/C7/C8 goes 430 > 460 > 495, Z06 flavor goes 505 > 650 > ???

Not saying that a 600HP NA Z06 wouldn't be killer, and super effective from a performance standpoint, but ... brochures

Well, one is 10% difference vs. the published HP, the other is __25%__ difference, so yeah, I'd say yes.

It doesn't seem like the C8 has much room for tire up front... I'd bet that the Z06/ZR1 will get widened FRONT fenders, but keep the rear bodywork the same... that way, they can still market it as "completely revised bodywork" but be in it at a lower price point (looking at you Ford... GT350, GT500 both followed this recipe)

Yeah, this is pretty much where I'm at with this. A 600hp C8 will definitely outperform a C7 Z06, but when it comes to marketing cars, you need to think more of the simpletons

600hp Z06 is going to sound weak when it debuts, and we won't know the true performance until about 6 months later... that sounds like a recipe for "dead on arrival"

ZL1 as well. That's sort of the status quo for high[er] performance domestic models (wider front fenders, different front fascia, supercharger ...)

Let's hope not. I had been forecasting the 5.5L NA as the engine for Grand Sport, and the 5.5TT would be the Z06. But someone I trust who was in a position to know better than I would is adamant that the Z06 is 5.5L NA. If there is a lower tune 5.5L NA I would expect it to be GS.

If it's faster why not? Hp is just a number. I think people buying those don't care if it has less power if it's a faster car

You mean the SAME GM that has ATSV and CTSV replacements both making less hp than the current ATSV and CTSV?

5.5 flat plane crank and 600hp NA is reasonable IMO.

The only thing that needs to be remembered is this is a 4100lb car and it's going to chew through tyres, rotors and pads at a faster rate than something like a R35 GTR. The GT500 will be an expensive track toy if you intend to do many track days! I'd still love to have one of course.

BAWAHAHAHAHAH!!!! I've cruised with both the C8 and 2 different GT500's. The GT500 looks a million times better and sounds a million times better. There's no comparison. Sounds like it is also no comparison in performance. All for the same price.
