Ethanol in supercharged mustang

I have a 2017 Roush mustang Gt and have an nGauge tuner because I'm running a 72mm pulley and a few other mods but am looking to get ethanol for a little extra power. I already have 1000cc injectors and am aware that I need to get a better fuel pump, but I’ve heard E55 can run through the stock pump. Anyways, Im not sure what I need to do to get it setup. Also have heard that I need a sensor unless I want to run straight E55. Do I need to get a tune to run ethanol? What steps do I need to take to run a mix (Ethanol/Pump)? Trying to avoid going to my local shop and doing it myself if possible.

Last time I checked I couldn't find a tuner that would do a flex fuel tune for a boosted 5.0 so if you go that route you'll probably have to just run ethanol but I could be wrong on this. Keep in mind out here in Phoenix I haven't once found any ethanol content better than 52%. I know everyone calls it e54 or e55 but the good stations out here measure 51- 52% at best. I've seen some that measured as low as 40%. I'm running a e54r tune with a flex tune for back up when needed so I test my gas at every fill up.

Yea, I’ve heard about the quality of the ethanol out here, my local tuner said I could get away without a new pump but was with holding more info. Im not sure if there were planning on tuning it for ethanol or putting in a sensor and having the nGauge do the work or something along those lines. The quote they gave me did not involve a tune, just a sensor and a pre/post dyno, and they said thats all that was required.

What fuel are you running now on a 72mm pulley? Really in order to do it correctly with no issues you need a return fuel system, just get the sai li kit and call it a day.

Running 91. Is there a tune required? I can install a kit no problem but it there anything I need to do with the nGauge?

No offense but I find it very hard to believe you are running a 72mm pulley with 91. You mean 82mm possibly?

Actually may be 79, i can check, I have two (3 including the stock roush one) I have a 72 laying around along with the tension piece.

I know I have a 91 tune for my 72mm pulley. The nGauge holds tunes from stock to the tightest pulley. But still all goes back to tuning. Does anyone have any extensive knowledge of the nGauge tuners? Do i need a tune for ethanol?

Yes, a specific tune for ethanol is required.

bruh if you are on a 72mm pulley on 91 im surprised if your engine isnt hurt already. 72mm on my car makes 13psi, smallest pulley thats safe on 91 is about a 79. But anyways you dont need any ethanol sensors or anything extra, just a sai li kit and a tune, then your good to go if you already have 1000cc injectors.

Yes, you 1000% need to be re-tuned for E. It will be a straight E tune too, most tuners won't even consider a flex fuel with boost.

Never knew shit gas was a thing until I moved from the east coast to Arizona. Have you considered a meth/water injection system? Can be an effective alternative to trying to find ethanol that doesn’t suck. If money isn’t a concern, there are places that have 100 octane, and you can also order Torco T85 and higher which is ultra high quality ethanol. That’s available in state. I don’t want to mess with trying to find ethanol, especially since I live down south in Maricopa. I’m fabbing in the Whipple oversized heat exchanger for my KB, then I’ll be moving onto a water/meth setup from Snow Performance.

I went to a different tuner to discuss more options, and he said that there are no flex kits the boosted Gt’s. Maybe methanol is the move. How much are you paying for your setup?

I’m still deciding on which stage I want to go with. The basic one from Snow can be found for between 250 and 475 for the braided line option depending on where you shop. The higher stage ones are more based on the electronic controls. Likely going to just add the stage 1. I’ve installed them for several people with great success.
