Pulsating resonance

My 2016 V6 convertible has a mild pulsating resonance above 45 mph. Varying acceleration makes no difference. I bought the car used and it has 43000 miles. It is especially felt in the steering wheel.

Had front wheels balanced, no change. The tires are almost new, DOT is 4118. I guess a tire rotation is next.

Check the very large and informative “driveline vibe” thread in this same sub-forum. This was a well known complaint most present in the 2015/16 model year, regardless of option/performance platform or transmission. There are so many things that could be “guessed” upon that could create such resonance.

The 2015/16 driveline vibe is most present above 45mph, sometimes in the range of 45-60mph and it is felt in the steering wheel, floor, brake pedal, center console and/or door (if your arm is on it). There’s never been a 100% documented fix. Ford does have (2) TSB’s on it (referenced in that aforementioned thread). Depending on how bad it is, the reference you give is similar to most of the complaints and some have likened the noise today an airplane propeller at speed (meaning the pulsating resonance gradually increases in sound and harshness as the vehicle accelerates).

There have been instances where driveshafts, center support bearings, rear wheel bearings, rear axles and complete rear diffs were replaced under warranty - but some had reported to have the vibe come back again in X-amount if miles.

Many folks had also reported that multiple Ford road force wheel balances did not cure the problem.

Now if the car has over 40k on it, there is a chance that you’re in need of tire replacement IF the existing tires have close to same miles on them. Even if the tires look good, they could have a bad wear pattern.
