I'm not very familiar with JDM stuff, so I could get it wrong. But I feel like they kind of missed the mark on these. My understanding was the Supra is largely popular due to the tunability and big power capability out of the 2JZ - seems like they aren't catering to this crowd with the new car.Just saw the new Toyota Supra reveal. Holy crap! It is ONLY avail. With 8 speed automatic. FORGET it! I feel so fortunate we still have a manual. So much more engaging. Until my body falls apart, manual only for me, thank you.
I dont think it's going to hurt value much at all if any.I love these manual vs automatic comments. Told ya'll that the GT350 won't be negatively affected in desirability once the GT500 rolls lol.
I've had rental cars with these crappy whiz-wheels. Ugh.I would much rather shift than turn a new knob as in some of the newer trucks and SUVs along with the new 500!
Yes! My biggest car related mistake was getting the SMG transmission with the E46 M3 12 years ago. Only manual sports cars since then.Just saw the new Toyota Supra reveal. Holy crap! BMW SMG's though were truly utter pieces of hot doo-doo garbage though. The ZF8 is actually a good transmission.Yes! My biggest car related mistake was getting the SMG transmission with the E46 M3 12 years ago. Only manual sports cars since then.
After reading this, it got me thinking. We all know the DCT and Automatics are faster and put up better numbers. Better numbers sell more cars. What if...Ford is still planning on a manual transmission for the GT500 but they wanted to release it with the DCT first, get all the numbers out there in the magazines, reviews, and articles so it gets stuck in people's minds. THEN...in a year...release the manual transmission option. Yeah, it will be slower. DEFINITELY more fun. But all the magazine/internet racers will have the original numbers ingrained in their heads so everyone's happy. Ford has the faster numbers published and known. And the enthusiasts get their fun/manual driving pleasure. No loss in sales. No loss in bench racing contests. We spoke with Carl Widdman, head engineer for Ford Performance and the Mustang, just after the GT500 was unveiled in Detroit today. I asked if we could see a three-pedal GT500 in the future.
"Right now, we're DCT-only, [but] we get feedback, and we're real tight with the Mustang crowd," Widdman said. I asked if that meant a manual was on the table. "We always listen to what our customers want, right?" he said with a grin.
If anything, the value may go up now that the GT500 is an Automatic.I dont think it's going to hurt value much at all if any.
I believe this is called "Pulling a Porsche" in the auto industry. I'll bet your 100% right.https://www.roadandtrack.com/car-sh...ord-mustang-shelby-gt500-dct-manual-possible/

Think it's possible?
Manuals and Harleys...modern anachronisms that live on!
Manuals have zero place in any modern day performance discussion.
