Looks like a bass knob for subwoofer. I have one in my car but did not hide the box behind the panel.

That's where I mounted my sub control knob, so pretty sure it was for that. Definitely not factory

Someone wired up a subwoofer, uninstalled it, and left the knob. That's my best guess.

Yup, you guys are right, the factory speakers have been replaced and apparently a subwoofer was installed at one time...I also found a small box that had six wires going to it, when I unplugged the wires, my left side speakers stopped working, so I had to put the wires back in and leave the box...don't know who did this crap, but I wish they would have left it alone...I don't like having to try to fix someone else's southern engineering....sigh...
