Ok, so it was bound to happen. Wife filled the EB up with 87 yesterday. Should I ride it out driving like Grandma, for 360 miles(Ugh!) or throw some octane boost in it. I’ve got some Lucas boost in the garage that looks like it could get a full tank to about 90 if I’m reading it right.
Don’t worry about it. I did the same thing last week and have run through just about an entire tank of 87. No pinging or detonation. I wouldn’t sweat it.

You are not reading it right. When they say it will raise the octane 5 points, they mean from 87 to 87.5.

To Lucas's credit, they clearly state that 10 octane pionts equal 1 octane number so were good there. What they don't tell you anywhere is how many points the botlle is worth! I misread "3X the boost" as 30 points. So you are correct, did not read it right!

I wonder how much of the 15-17 tune wound up in the 18 base calibration? Maybe hard to squeeze more out of the 18 tune, and maybe the A10 complicates things... grasping at straws here...

May just get the fmic first and see what happens with the tune one of these days.

Is a 17 with a tune faster than an 18 without one? Anyone ever test that?

Well,

2018 = 310 HP and 350 TQ
2017 with FP = 335 HP and 390 TQ

Calibration features:
Peak gains of 25 horsepower at 5500 rpm and 70 lb-ft at 2200 rpm
40 horsepower and 60 lb-ft average gain from 2500-5000 rpm
75 horsepower and 64 lb-ft average gain from 5500-6800 rpm
100 horsepower maximum gain at 6000 rpm

I know on paper it’s faster but I meant in the streets. Just wondering, ik the air box has a lot to do with it though..

You would get eaten... specially if an automatic... if all other things equal.

More than likely it would come down to drivers and tires.

I never realized how much the stock tires held the car back until I purchased a decent set.

Launch is crucial... and on the street pavement, it can be very hard to get right unless you know the road. At least around here, the pavement is sooo different from street to street in some cases.

hey, i went against a 18 ecoboost, when im a 15 with a pp, and the ford tune. within 3-4 blocks i'm clearly ahead of the 18. but knowing the 18 is not too far behind me without the tune is pretty sick. how close he was right next to me.

I also think the Ford Tune is a little underrated on the numbers. Pack on an intercooler you are likely seeing 30-35 peek and more beef in the upper RPMs.

However, in this weather in the mid and north east, It is likely bogging.

Put it back to stock, dont risk anything happening by not following the 1 rule FP has about the tune, dont run anything below 91!!

Ok, I know this has been posted before. I have seen many different opinions as to how long it takes for the engine to “learn” the tune and fuel octane. Anywhere from 100-600 miles. I have about 200 on mine since the tune was installed. I can definitely feel a difference, but it seems like it’s a little better each time I drive it. What is the general consensus on how long this takes to have all the wrinkles ironed out?

I think thats all myth. When the car is tuned, its programmed to utilize what was set, if you're providing that( octane, parts, etc) it should be performing as such.

I have a qusetion though, if a tune was flashed for 93oct but the car was using 91 at the time but filled up with 93 a few weeks after, would that affect the performance of the car and would the tune have to be reflashed with 93 in it now?

I've read that doing a few pull from 40 to 80mph in 4th gear would speed up the learning process and did ±10 pulls that right after the tune. I'd say it took less then 50 miles to get there for me.

Mine felt pretty great right from the 1st start up and I did not notice a lot of gain afterward from the "learning".
I assume all you can gain is whatever extra hp/tq the engine can produced with 93 vs 91 octane as the tune probably assume 91 octane from teh start and ramps up the timing slowly if no knock is detected. (I had 93 in the tank when I got my tune)
