So my 2018 with the digital dash came with a dead bug sealed inside. Pointed this out and my dealer and they ordered and then installed a new instrument cluster. The old one showed my actual miles of 32xx, the new one came with just 15 miles on it. Dropped my car off at the dealer for them to remove the instrument cluster and ship it to CA to have the correct miles programmed on it. My dealer just called and they said Ford won't authorize the odometer correction. My dealer says that Ford says that he ECM stores the miles, not the instrument cluster, and whatever is show on the instrument cluster is correct?!?!

So what would you do? Fight the fight with Ford (which I'd win because the dealer has lots of service history documenting the correct miles), or just leave it as is? I'm looking for opinions and pro and cons to each option. Thanks!

So the grand total difference now is less by 3200 miles?

Me? I would just leave it. I’d make sure I had documents to prove everything though. Pics of the old dash and mileage and pics of the new dash etc and call it a day.

Comes the time to sell it may look at it again...

I would absolutely fight it! You don't want your car tagged with "odometer discrepancy" at any point unless you like rapid depreciation. They should have had the original cluster programmed with the correct mileage before it was replaced, and it should match the ECU exactly.

THIS is why I hate Ford. The whole reason they didn't have to take a gov't bailout is because they have saved money by refusing to do the right thing for their customers. I've driven GM and Chrysler for years, and never had to argue with anyone to get issues corrected that should have been resolved from the get go.

Just drive it 3k miles before taking it to any dealer or quick lube tire shop etc. That records miles and leave it be carfax will be happy and you get your warranty an extra 3k miles.

That doesn’t make sense the ordered cluster should have the correct mileage on it. I would go to a different dealer. You could also have the cluster reprogrammed yourself if it comes down to it (which is silly) but a dealer should be ordering a cluster with the miles already on it as the dealer can not change it themselves.

Also the mileage is stored on the pcm I think? The cluster reading is independent of the mileage stored elsewhere on the car and the mileage being difffent does nothing to the car in terms of any anti tampering, etc. Dealer has no clue on what they are doing.

I had a dodge dealer claim they did recall work on my truck. The date that it was done on I was not even in the country. So when it actually needed to be done they said it already was....

that seems weird. don't they ask for pcm & mileage readout when buying these to swap into 15-17's? they should be able to correct the mileage eitherway.

Can't see the problem if you have documentation to clarify the discrepancy, it was replaced for a legitimate reason and not too deceive ! Leave it alone .

If the guys in this thread who are buying brand new 2018 clusters AND having them preprogrammed with accurate miles for their 2015-2017 mod upgrade... then your Ford Dealership and Ford should be able to work out the mileage correction.

https://www.mustang6g.com/forums/showthread.php?t=99275

If you’re not satisfied with the current issue, contact the Ford 800# and open a Case with your local Regional CSR - the cluster should be adjusted to the correct mileage.

If Ford and the Dealership refuse to do it, then the guys in the above link can probably give you additional advice for fixing it outside of Ford.

Only bad thing about getting the ODO changed on a cluster outside of Ford is that they can only get it within a certain range and not an exact number.

Are the dealers changing the ODO readings? They can change the as built data but I was under the impression they can't change an odo reading. When I was doing my 350 cluster swap my dealer said the clusters have to be ordered with the mileage programmed on it from wherever it is coming from.

Did they put a new cluster in, or a salvaged one?
I was told it was ordered new from the factory. But that doesn't explain why it had 15 miles on it. Good question!

Replacement clusters are ordered with the VIN and mileage programmed in by AER or United Radio depending on the region. Either the dealer put the wrong mileage in the form or the corresponding company programmed the wrong mileage. Since the dealer doesn't seem interested in fixing the issue, I would be willing to guess they are the ones that screwed up. They can not send your cluster back to have the mileage changed, and cannot correct it themselves, and getting another cluster warrantied for "we ordered it with the wrong mileage" isn't an option. Someone needs to eat a cluster, and it's not the customer. It's whoever screwed up.
OP, if you contact Ford customer service and start talking about mileage discrepancies, your car will get fixed. This is a legality issue after all.

I would g as ve just left it with the bug if it wasn't in the way. That's actually pretty cool.
