Hi guys,

Just read that the UK MOTs are going to get more strict, just wonder what this would mean in the aftermarket scene.

I've done the plug and play 35w xenon upgrade and worried this will get flagged, I've got 18months to worry yet but other owners who may have done a xenon upgrade who have to now have an MOT will want to know about it.

In short i believe the purpose of the MOT change was to catch people in modified vehicles adding xenon headlights without adding washers etc to the car or changing some of the reflectors which leads to dazzling road users.

In your case, you'd fail.

Well it's sort of PnP

http://www.focusst.org/forum/focus-...-st3-hid-bulb-swap-d8s-d3s.html#/topics/31235

Managed to get a set of jaguar XF 35w osram ballasts bulbs n cables for ÂŁ50 off ebay and you swap out the internal workings of the ballasts and dremmel a hole on the bulb where the D8S bulb notch is. as it's a D3S bulb the notch is in a different location.

I managed to do it without removing the bumper but the left side was a pain with the washer bottle in the way,i removed the air box to get to the right, that was really easy. I've got small hands so I was able to get in

New MOT rules

Regarding any of the lights, looks like...

'.. a product on the lens or light source, which obviously reduces light intensity or changes emitted colour..' will be recorded as a 'minor defect'.

Presumably, this could be applied to any vinyl tint, e.g. tail light vinyls etc?

That specific phrase refers to DRL's, but I would say as long as there isn't any significant reduction in light output or change in colour for tail lights, you'd be fine. As with a lot of these things, will be down to the discretion of the tester, but I can't imagine it would cause much drama.

Not sure which ones you're running but the ones from Manders Mustang don't appear to have any noticeable difference in light output though.

If there are any MOT testers on here, it would be interesting to hear their comments though :)
