My car has ~4,900 miles. I was driving to work this morning and I start hearing a weird clicking/clunking. I didn't think anything of it until I started to feel it while holding the stick shift. THEN, while still on the freeway driving 65-70, some of the wheels briefly lock up and the tires screech. This happens a couple times. So I slow down, but stay on the freeway. Eventually the clunking gets louder and I can feel it a lot more, so I pull over on the side of the freeway. I'm really close to an exit, so I decide to just put my blinkers on and slowly drive off. I did that and pull off the road and the car just shuts off. It wouldn't start up anymore. I had it towed to a Ford dealer and they give me a loaner that I have to pay for. FML. What happened?

When’s the last time you checked the oil?

There was a similar case a while back where a transmission bolt backed out and got hung up in the flywheel/clutch assembly.

I typically check every few weeks. It was normal last time.

Interesting. That would make sense.
Uggg. Hope it’s a quick and painless fix. Good luck. Please keep us posted.
Thanks!
That sucks!

Good luck getting everything worked out.

Not sounding good to me. Mine just did a very similar thing about 2 weeks ago. Lost a little power/responsiveness and heard a sound kinda like a header leaking. No check engine light or any warning lights. Noise got louder over the course of a few seconds while trying to find a place to turn off, and within a few more seconds it starting an awful noise and my gearshifter started shaking like mad....pushed the clutch in and pulled off immediately.
Just heard today that they are ordering a long block as I had a rod poking through the block. It was full of oil I know as I checked previous day as I am paranoid after reading some oil consumption issues.
Mine is (was?) a 2018 non-R with 1800 miles and less than 3 months old. My research leads to failed oil pump gears but I'll likely never know as they don't do or share diagnosis as far as I can tell.

Hope like heck yours is something else....

NAH! Most likely a bearing. My track pack failed within 4k miles with similar symptoms. @nhgaudreau symptom is unique. The rear wheels looking up has more to do with the drivetrain not the powertrain. BUT! who knows! I wish told us the actual cause afterwards.

Sorry to hear about your car. I cringe every time I read something like that. Hope the replacement goes as planned and that’s the end of major troubles for it.
Good Luck

Bearing failure was the diagnosis I was given for mine (similar symptoms). I'm not convinced that the oil pump didn't factor in to the failure. Few details were given.

OP - sorry to hear about this. I hope it's resolved quickly!

When you tried to restart it, did the engine turn over, or did it just click?

When your car was pulled onto the flatbed for towing, did the rear wheels turn?

I was feeling your pain, man. I came past you on my way to work (in my AG R) as yours was being loaded on the truck. I would have stopped to help if the tow truck hadn't already been there. Once I got to the office, I texted my peeps at the dealership just as your car was being brought in. You're in good hands with them.

Man that stinks, I hope it gets resolved quickly and painlessly. On a side note, I just watched your blood blister, Steeda clutch spring install video.

Did you notice the oil pressure at the time?
