Engine coolant temps

Was wondering if anyone running the 170 thermostat,if they have had any problems with their car getting up to temp when real cold out.Got a po128 code yesterday,coolant temp too low.Mainly hwy driving I can't get the car up to 160 in the required time.

You running the reische? I had trouble with the first gen because it wasnt sealing completely inside the housing. They revised the gasket to the factory style and then it worked fine. The car should heat up like normal. If yours isn't getting up to temp normally then something is wrong.

Yea it was the first gen,might o order another one,the seal did seem a little funky.

No issues with my 160 degree.

It gets up too temp pretty quick when in stop and go traffic just when cruising down the hwy on a real cold day it won't go up over 165.

I have the reische 170. Not as cold here as where you are, but no issues getting to temp after driving around for a short time...temp in low 40's at night leaving work.

Do you use the factory gasket on it? I have a reische new in the box and it has an orange gasket. i bought it from american muscle 6 months ago.

Can't on the gen 1 because it's much smaller. They made the Gen 2 larger on the outside diameter to it can use the factory style gasket.

This is what happened to me not so long ago. Version 1 of the Reische thermostat. It lasted a year before it happened but when it did, it did. I got the low coolant dtc and noticed my coolant gauge was very low. This is how it was when I pulled the housing off.





You can see how much coolant it was letting by uncontrolled when it popped into this position.

I put the old version back in for reference and then the version 2 Reische thermostat to show the difference. You can clearly see the size difference when in the housing and what can happen as well as the sizing stamped on the thermostat itself. The older one being 56mm and the new one being 61mm.

I initially chocked it up to just a bad thermostat and I had no issue buying a new one before I even found out this issue and this is also when I found out there was a new version. Anybody with the old style please beware and maybe change it before it happens.

I don't remember if mine was the gen 2 or gen 1 from when I put it in...no issues yet though.

Did your gasket fit around the edge of your thermostat or did the oring just sit in front of the thermostat?

Good pics... Tommy I think the new one comes with an o-ring that sits on top and seals it. I can't exactly remember either, but 2nd Gen works fine. Temp is rock steady. When I had the first gen my temps were all over the place and one night coming home it wouldn't get above 140, that's when I changed it.
