Hey Guys,

My 2017 GT PP has been hit twice now in the 9300 miles and 13 months of ownership, coincidentally by an F250 each time.

The first accident was about $10K in damage to the rear bumper and quarter panel. The most recent was a side swipe of the driver side door and fender.

After the first repair I have mixed reviews on its severity. The body shop said it was simply cosmetic, but some appraisers noted "frame damage" and had substantially lower offers.

My question to you guys - if your car (which is a daily driver and sees some track days) was hit twice would you hang onto it, or get something else?

Look into a diminished value claim with the at fault party. Personally I wouldn't keep the car. Its no longer what you intended it to be, which is a collectors item. Your intent was to put 20k miles on it and then store it. The accident(s) have now prevented that and have killed the value of the vehicle. Demand compensation.

Not sure about the collectors item, but I do plan on filing a diminished value claim. I was awarded one after the first accident.

I was joking about that part. :D But dead serious about diminished value. Rules are different in each state, but sound like you've already taken advantage of your state having it in place. If you get it this time around, try to get the car sold for the diff in value, minus the DV compensation you get. Id be leery forever about any hidden damage.

My last car was hit 8 times. 6 were parking lot swipes, one was while I was sitting at a light, the 8th time it was parked in a drive-way and the home owner just backed up and took out the front end.

Didn't hurt me a bit at trade-in time, and I never had any issues.

The real-world effects of accident damage and repair are about 1/1,000,000,000,000th of what on-line obsessive car freaks imagine it will be.

OP: The question isn't whether or not the car is o.k., but whether or not your psyche is o.k.

Your last car was hit 8 times? Dang dude, sounds like you need to get a set of bumpers from a go-kart.

I was going to have the Jesuits across the river in D.C. do a exorcism on that car. I was sure Linda Blair was in the trunk with her head spinning around spewing green-pea soup.

Hell, Big Yellow was rear-ended 4 weeks ago. Needed a new bumper cover and bumper support.

I couldn't care less, and it looks even better than the factory color match.

And I didn't post about it here, because accidents happen.

The thing is, the people that post here are really, reaaaally into their cars. It's their passion and hobby, their baby and family. So there's lots of freakin' out when a car gets damaged.

Relax, it will be fine. Just have good insurance.

This is just what you tell the insurance guy right? If you plan on saving this thing as a "collectors item" remember for the next 20 years its a used car.

Track Use

Your car would be the ideal track car now. If value does get affected, you might as well trash the crap out of it on track, if you can afford it as a beater. If you feel unsafe with it or something doesn't seem to be working properly no matter if the technician says it's fine, I'd trade it in. I'd rather let my money be better spent on something I know is worth it. I've been where you are before. I didn't like making payments on something I knew was blemished.

Right on when talking about the diminished value claims. Most people don't even know it exists and the insurance companies pocket that money as they aren't paying it out.

As for in the "real world"....

I would venture that "car" guys and gals are less likely to buy a used car that has been in multiple accidents, especially in a private party sale. We bounce back to diminished value compensation. But in the real world, the dealers / and the majority of buyers don't care as long as the car was repaired properly and presents itself well.

But the real question - Will you be happy with it after being repaired a second time?

If not - do what you need to do to feel better.
