Hoping for some input from those who may have considered similar options;

I purchased a barely used (3000 miles) stock 2015 GTPP (Recaros too) last summer with a plan to have some fun modding the car (wheels/tires, exhaust, tune, intake, suspension, etc). Loving the car but not a DD for me—just a fun street machine with no plans to track it,etc.

I really wanted a GT350 but at the time did not have the cash on hand for one.

I recently came into some unplanned cash which is burning a hole in my pocket so I’m contemplating selling the GT and buying a GT350. I’m also considering adding a supercharger (Whipple or Paxton) to the GT this Spring as well as part of my mods.

Anyone follow a similar path (upgrade GT and/or move up to GT350)? Just trying think through options. Maybe the comparison is really a fully modded GT vs a less-modded GT 350. I understand this is not really an apple2apple comparison (SC vs NA car, etc) but just curious if others have contemplated choices.

Thx in advance for any insights.

My ā€˜15 GT PP came with all the mods in my sig. The Whipple is no joke. After driving mine, I never feel like getting a GT350. I’d be spending more to be slower.

Plenty of used GT350s nowadays. I'm going to give you the same advice as any other prospective buyers: Find a used one at a Carmax(pay a small transfer fee if you have to) and try it out for yourself. I never personally considered a GT, supercharged or not.

If you’re a mustang guy just looking for a fast mustang the SC gt will be faster. If you’re wanting a gt350 but justifying to yourself passing on it by having a faster non gt350 then you’re probably going to eventually want a gt350 anyway.

Something else to keep in mind is that once you mod, your reliability will be deteriorated. Will you have enough set aside to replace broken parts?
Once you get tired of your toy and decide to sell, would you rather be selling an unmolested 350, or a standard GT with thousands of dollars thrown at it?

If it's a street car, just go down the supercharged GT route. People who buy a GT350 don't contemplate it. They just do it. A modded GT is logical and nothing wrong with that. A GT350 is something more though.

If you have to ask what jazz is, you'll never know...

From my road coursing mindset, I'd have the GT350 from those two options (if it had the trans and diff cooling and no history of engine oil burning problems). But I'd track it religiously and probably modify it so it's long-term value would be terrible. So, even if I could afford a GT350, I wouldn't have one. I'd get an NA GT and modify it to my liking with some purposeful NA engine mods, should anyone come out with cams and what not that actually produce results for the dollar spent to buy and install (not likely, IMHO).

I love the 350 and would rather have a it than any modded GTpp. Just in the sheer fact of the sound of the FPC and the coolness factor. I get that the modded GTpp may be faster, but you will find that there is always faster out there, but there isn't much cooler than a NA 526HP FPC voodoo and the curves of the GT350 are icing on the cake.

Thx guys for all the replies...some really good points to ponder here. For those that mentioned the "coolness" factor of the 350 I am right there with you. I am also realizing that chasing the endless mods may result in a faster car, but honestly at some point how fast is fast enough (rhetorical of course)? I think for now I will "tread lightly" with my GT mods and keep my eyes open for a nice (slightly used) 350--seems to be a good number of these available.

Any guidance on a 350 related to model year (16 vs 17)? I'm not up to speed on this but thought I recall reading something about oil cooler/etc being a consideration?

Thx again!

If you get a 16my make sure it is a track pack (recaro seats incl.), if you plan on tracking the car. If it is a 17my the track pack features come standard.

17 GT350 has all the coolers installed. Your down to do you want Recaro's or Regular heated/cool seats.

16 GT350 you have tech packs and track packs. Techs do not have coolers installed, and track pack does. If your not tracking the car, the 16 tech pack is fine.

As for the F/I of a GT350, a turbo GT350 is a stout vehicle. Their are you tubes of people who track their turbo GT350's. Any F/I on ANY car is cause for more maintenance. There is no such thing as a slow F/I car, and the GT350 have been proven so far to hold up to boost quite well. You may not see it in this section because boosting a GT350 is sacrilege to some here.

Obviously cost is a concern for Drknight15. Regardless of the argument of N/A vs F/I on a 350, why on earth would you spend more on a car that still needs F/I vs a 15 GT which is significantly less add F/I and make the same power as F/I 5.2L voodoo?

like you I didnt have the cash to put down for a GT350 when I picked up my Used Low Mile GT PP, and then when I came into some spending money I put on the exhaust, Procharger, etc.

Sure I have thought wow I probably could have had a GT350 by now (at the prices they are today anyway) but I have never not enjoyed driving my GT or thought I would enjoy driving a GT350 more than the GT.

I just think I am missing out on the cool factor of a GT350 because no matter how cool or fast your GT is they are still a dime a dozen.

so for me I am enjoying my Boosted GT and I will return it back to stop take the hit when something newer and equally special to the gt350 comes along like the new GT500, until then I am happy where I am

I agree in everything above. I had a 15 whippled GT that made 700 RWHP. Thing was a beast. Fast, very fast. But....cannot use it really for a street car. and like said above always something faster. 600 at the wheel would be plenty. For drag racing...sure, but I wanted a handling car moreso. I mean a 6 second pull and your a buck 25 or more. lol. don't get me wrong the rush is awesome. I have an R now and don't regret it one bit. Way cooler, the sound OMG, overall fun factor is more and the necks that get broken...lol:thumbsup::lol:
Its all really what your looking for and what you can afford.
