It's an incredible transmission, it seems. Spotlights how a broad power band is more important than peak power. Either your engine creates a broader power band or you get a transmission that keeps the engine at it's max power during accel.

He may be trolling, but there's some truth in that. While I love my GT350 for what it is, it isn't very fast for 526 hp.
Is that mostly down to gearing? If it's geared more for an open road then it's not going to be a straight line king.

I am amazed by how the GT350 trounces the Z/28 even though it's got a gutted trunk, so many removed options, more track focused, and dynos higher(MotorTrend).

The Voodoo is making the right amount of power to the wheels. The “problem” is it’s narrow power band and gearing.

If it had the new 10 speed auto with a mild stall, it would run high 11’s with a higher trap speed, IMO. Look at what the 10 speed has done to the 5.0, made it a 12 flat car.
What? The Voodoo has a narrow power band?

Umm, no. The Voodoo has a 4,000 + RPM power band.

IMO the "problem" if you can call it that is the GT350 is not set up for stoplight drags. It's set up to minimize shifting on the road course. So the power band doesn't come on until 20-30 mph in first gear. Once you are traveling at road course speeds there is a huge power band which makes the GT350 an absolute cinch to drive quickly.

If you’re used to small 4 cylinder import engines, it probably seems like a power band of 4000-8000 rpm is “wide”. Let me tell you, it’s not. It’s more akin to a old two stroke 250cc motorcross bike.

My LS7 had a power band from idle to 7000 rpm, as does my Dart 415ci engine. Both have wide, fat power bands.

BS the LS7 makes great power at idle - unless yours idled at 4,000 rpm. You couldn't even load the dyno up to get a power reading at idle. Based on looking at online dyno graphs I bet your LS7 made less than 250 HP at 3,000 RPM and the power was dropping off by 6,500.

Please post a dyno graph of your Dart 415 CI engine that shows the power at idle.

A quick review of an LS7 dyno chart I found shows that it makes 80% of the max torque over a ~4700 RPM range and 75% over a ~5100 RPM range. Voodoo does exactly the same. Both have nice flat torque curves - can't speak for the Dart 415ci - do you have a dyno chart?

I said power band, not a particular number at idle. But, you could stomp on it at idle and it would fry the tires.

Look at the dyno *curves* of both engines. You yourself stated the Voodoo doesnt start making power until 4000 rpm. The LS7 looks more like a 45 degree line, the Voodoo is soft until it gets on the pipe at around 4000 rpm.

There are no dyno tests that I’m aware of that show a full throttle reading at idle. Most pulls don’t start until 3000 rpm. But that doesn’t mean some aren’t making big power down low, and carry it high.

Really? Look at this dyno chart and the sharp upward spike starting around 3500rpm. That’s not “flat”.

I finally found the dyno on a Pontiac 412ci RA IV engine I built 17 years ago. 9.5/1, flat tappet cam.

This is a what a wide power band and looks like.

If we can prove the 350 was never worth the coin, we can make non owners feel better about non ownership.
:lol::lol::lol:

Oh man I cracked up when I read this...nice one Cinci!
