Fellas,
I have a 16 Prem. I took a 200 mile drive yesterday, and while I have felt this the whole time I had it, it aggravated me yesterday. The car feels floaty at high speeds. Driving on the interstate at 75, it just feels like the front end is loose. the opposite of riding on rails. I had the alignment checked.

What can i do to tighten up the car without making it to hard\stiff?
Thanks

You might try a different power assist setting for the steering. I haven't messed with mine but my dad mentioned one of the settings (on a base GT PP) made the car feel funky at highway speeds.

ETA - Check your tire pressures too. Mine was at 40+ psi (set that way for shipping).

Do the above checks first (steering mode, tire pressures). Outside of that, what is your budget to improve the car?

you would have to define "high speed", but the owners manual warns that the tires may require more pressure for 100 mph or more.

PP tires are probably better in this regard. I checked tirerack and those tires are rated for 186 mph.

Its probably the tires. I had the same feeling with my stock ones. Since I lowered the car and put on better tires, the car feels more planted for sure , not just in high speeds.

I know exactly what you mean. My daily driver is a BMW, so all Mustangs feel floaty to me, especially the non-PP. It is the combination of soft springs, under-dampened struts, and light/numb steering. Changing the steering mode to "Sport" tightens the steering. There are many options available for the suspension, it just depends on how far from stock you want to go, and how much you want to spend. I installed Steeda progressive springs, struts and sway bars, and the floaty/spongy sensation is gone. Now it drives more like a Mini Cooper than a parade float with a marshmallow suspension.

Do you have any hood lift?

A PP upgrade will make a good difference, and anything more will be a significant improvement (though a firmer ride is a given). I run 200/800 springs and upgraded struts/shocks and cruise often at 120mph+. Glorious is the only way to decribe the ride now while cruising highways.

Don’t be shy if you want to have your mustang feel like a sportscar; go big and call it a day.

What I did, to make my mustang feel like an actual sportscar instead of a floaty mess, was to add the following parts:

Steeda proaction non-adjustable Shocks
Steeda Ultralite Linear Springs
Steeda billet upper shock mounts
BMR CB005

That combo is pretty affordable and totally transforms the car from a floaty, rolly mess in stock PP trim to a planted, but still comfortable corner carver.

My GT Prem non PP felt floaty initially on the highway at 75-85 mph. I got the black Ford Strut Tower Brace with Steel Cowl Extension and it improved the ride a lot

Planning to get the Steeda IRS subframe braces in the spring to tighten up the rear

I initially wasn't going to get the performance pack, but after a test drive I felt the standard car was floaty (as you describe) and handled like a boat (sorry :p). Time for some upgrades? Also, as some have said, make sure your tires are properly inflated. 32lbs is too low, 36+ imo.
