Starting to miss everyday practicality

For practicality, the imminently-releasing 2018 Accord Sport 2.0T with either the 6-manual or 10-auto is looking pretty good. The design cues of the long hood, blunt reverse-raked front end and the fastback roofline are evocative. Heck the darn thing even has a clamshell hood. Add the limo-lounging backseat room and nearly 17 cu.ft trunk, and it's nearly the perfect package. I can imagine some converts crossing over from Ecoboost Mustangs.

Me? I'd get one... if Honda'd squeeze a screaming V8 and and rear drive into that body.

Honda is off my list for awhile. Before the Tundra I traded in for the stang, I had an 08 Accord V6 sedan. Worst Honda ever owned. The engine burnt so much oil and Honda considered it within spec. A quart of oil every 2k miles. By the time the oil needed to be changed at 10k, I had already put 5 quarts in it within that time. What was the point of an oil change then?

I'm back on my rocker now with the Stang. I'm not worried about who fits or not, for now. I will decide in 12 months when it's time to replace the wife's lease what will happen.

Plus, today was a fun commute day. There were 3 of us stangs side by side on the freeway blocking lanes making the wall of Fords. Good times.

I know what you are feeling. I almost wonder at times if I purchased my Mustang too soon. Still have a 16 and 13 year old at home. I also had a college student home all summer driving my suv to 3 jobs. That left me with the Mustang as a daily driver... not what I envisioned. At times it was impractical due to my occupation, but other times I really enjoyed driving it every day. Go with your heart.. if you find yourself looking back at it as you walk thru a parking lot and have excitement when you think about driving it then keep it...I am beginning to understand that it is really about the driving experience.. that is why people buy certain cars...the non-practical cars....

I just bought a cheap, used used Acura TL (my 4th) for a DD because the 4 doors are great with my kids and keeping mileage off the car.

Plus, I can now do the full track slut transformation on my car...

Since you're in the bay area, are you doing track days with HOD-Hooked on Driving events? I used to live in the bay area and did events with HOD at Laguna Seca and Thunderhill raceway. I need to head back to Thunderhill now that they extended their track. I may decide to make the Saleen a track slut too.

This is why when I buy my next car when I start a family it's gonna be one of those jack of all trade vehicles. Sporty, auto, AWD, trunk space, etc.

Keep it lean. If there's anything I'm going to get that won't fit in the Mustang then I figure I probably don't need it anyway.

One of the reasons I'm 52 and can move my entire house in three hours.

Yeah I typically go to Sonoma (I live 10 minutes away) and Thunderhill a lot. I haven't made it out to Laguna yet which was a goal
for this season but it didn't happen as my baby daughter was the house priority.

I run with a couple different groups both public and private. HOD, SCCA, Sim Raceway(Sonoma only) are all great. I also belong to a
private car club that does auto-X and have been invited into another private group through my photographer but haven't gone to
any of those dates...yet.

FYI, The re-modeled T-Hill is AMAZING! I love the super-tight technical 2 mile west course. The 3 mile is a high speed blast as always
and the 5 mile is the combo of both those courses. They also just added a 7 acre pad that can be used for auto-x and other events.

I originally bought my mustang for my DD, long commute and all.

As time went on, as much as I love my car, it's annoying at times. Sometimes you don't need a rocketship to get to the store down the road late at night. Bumper to bumper traffic is also annoying in this car, even though it's an auto, with the Circle D converter it can get a little jerky when up and downshifting constantly in traffic.

I decided to buy a halfway decent DD for commuting in traffic most days, for snow, and to help take some mileage off my mustang. I got a 2006 Infiniti G35X, and even though its older, it is the polar opposite of my Mustang. Smooth and quiet, etc. Sometimes that is a nice thing.

Why I have a 2012 Camry V6 XLE in the driveway. That's the practical appliance car that is quiet, comfortable, has room for 3 older boys across (one of the largest back seats in the class), and enough amenities to make me happy. So when I'm in the mood, I can take the Mustang, but when I need an appliance to get around town, I take the Camry. Funny thing is the v6 is faster stock then my 2001 GT was. That helps with a little of the fun even on a commute but gets ridiculous gas mileage still (29-30mpg cruising at 75-80). Nowadays you can get a low mileage one for $10-14k and ins is dirt cheap.

I MISS MY MUSTANG! Already looking at ordering a 2018 Mustang. The truck is great and has much better tech than the 2015 Mustang had. I can get all that now though on the 2018 Mustang. To hell with practicality!

[MENTION=19793]2morrow[/MENTION] that is a technical course. I could see that being ideal for miata's and lotus'. Unless they ran the full 5 mile course, that's how i'd touch that side. You're definitely experienced. The stang sounds so good on course too. Thanks for sharing.

First, I went to Dodge to see what I could get for a 2 month old Saleen. They offered me $28k. The 2018 Scatpack Charger in destroyer grey was $46k msrp. They were applying about $5k in incentives. A shitty rate for a 7yr loan that was going to increase my payment $200 a month. I was like we're way off on all sides. I gave them 30 minutes to woo me or I'm gone. They came back with a little more money on my car, slightly better rate, and lowered their car to invoice. The payment was still $100 more than I wanted to pay. In reality, I just didn't want to take a $10k bath on my car. They were stealing it from me at $28k.

I decided to shop around for a back up car. My son has a 2016 Focus SE we bought him for $13k earlier in the year. It's certified to 100k miles and a total bargain. I found quite a few for a measly $10k certified low mileage. My other idea was a cheap Sienna minivan I found with 69k miles for $6k. This way the wife can get a smaller car she really wants instead of a 3 row suv. The minivan would be ideal for moving visiting family from out of state. The wife likes the minivan idea. I'm going to give this a little more thought before I do anything. I want to see if I was just having a bad day or it's something that really needs to be addressed. All I do know is I'm keeping the stang.
