SS50: V6 versus GT (Practicality vs. Dream)

Fresh out of school, I bought my 2014 V6 Mustang as I didn't want to commit too much of my income to a car like the GT right away. At this point, I'm looking to the 2017 model year to upgrade to the GT. The GT is definitely a model that I want to say that I've owned at least once, and the Coyote engine being built here in Windsor is a nice bonus.

At the end of the day, definitely buy whichever trim level you want, as long as you are comfortable with making any of the financial sacrifices required (and able to, obviously).

Wrestling with this too. If there was 300hp option with leather and a torque curve that didn't fall off a cliff at 5k, I'd say buy that one.
But theres not.

Hmm...you're #s are off in in the MPG.

GT is 19 combined. V6 is 22 combined. You have a 9 mpg difference (not sure where you are getting that from.)

Actually, I'm very close on the V6 mileage, it turns out. There's a thread of actual mileage measured in the V6 section and it's right around 26.5, after break-in.

Uhh... that's a lot of highway driving, which will be very similar to the V8, so it's a wash. Either that, or Ford needs to cancel all their other programs ever if they are getting 26.5 MPG average on typical city driving with that V6.

I was having buyers remorse for a couple of weeks when my EB Premium was delivered to me as I should have gone with the GT. But then again I outweighed the costs and as soon as I was able to drive the EB free spiritly (since I was in the break in period), my remorse slowly faded away. The EcoBoost is a solid engine, and although you might not get the growl, Ford did an awesome job with amplifying the engine noise in the cabin. And FYI, the EB is no joke, I have pushed it countless times and every time is just as scarier of an experience as the last. I made an awesome purchase and good luck to you!

I ordered my base 2015 Mustang with the 3:55 gears in June 2014, picked it up November 11, and I have 5,000 miles on it already. I love the gear, and get 28-29 MPG with normal driving. I did not have to buy any other package to get it. I am in Ohio.

Seeing the OP is also from Canada, the choice came down to this for me:

Canadian Winter.

I was almost exactly in the same boat. I could afford a GT premium, but I really had to squeeze my wallet. But I also wanted something I could drive every day of the year.

If I bought a GT, I would have trouble in winters. Not just because the car can't handle the winter, but because I'd be too afraid to ruin such a sweet car with the clusterfuck the roads turn into during those times. Simply put, I wouldn't be able to enjoy a GT as a daily driver. Too much paranoia.

Instead, I decided to go for the V6. I leased it for 4 years. This way, I save money. At the end of the lease, if I still want the car, I keep it. If I want to upgrade to GT, I can do that. Maybe by then I'd have a bigger wallet too. And maybe, just maybe, Ford would offer package that'd be closer to a V6 Premium. So far, I'm very very happy with my decision.

As sweet of a car the GT is, I would feel terrible using it as my "work shoes".

Edit: Dang. I was a bit too late! But yes, those pony lights make me giggle like a little kid every time I see them. Damn you, Ford! Give the V6 pony lights!
