Question about maintenance and fuel rating

I'am just wondering is it really worth it having full synthetic oil or synthetic blend should be enough? i don't do my own oil change. The car is only being used as my daily. Also, is regular gas OK or is it really recommended to have premium gas? Am i getting any benefits for having full synthetic oil + premium gas if the car is only being used as my daily. :ford::amen:

Premium gas is recommended. Always run premium. If the extra $6 per tank for premium is an issue then you can't afford a Mustang GT anyways.

how about the oil? is synthetic blend ok? or just go full synthetic?

Ford's power rating of 435/400 is with 93oct. If you run a lower octane your power levels will be lower.

I was forced to run about half a tank of 87 when gas became scarce after hurricane Harvey. The car felt "flat" and had terrible mid-range performance. On top of that my mileage dropped. IMO there is no reason to run anything other than 93 on a performance oriented vehicle.

I would go full synthetic engine oil just because it can last longer.
For DD you won't feel any difference between 87 vs 91, $6/tank is peanut money but still money wasted.

I believe factory and dealers use a 5w-20 synthetic blend. If you use a synthetic blend or full synthetic I don't think it really matters at all.

I like to stick with the same type of oil whatever it is and never change. Anecdotal but... my brother (40+ years experience as an auto tech) had a Ford truck that ran conventional and he switched to synthetic. It used oil until he switched back. I had a similar situation with my Honda. I had been using Valvoline Maxlife synthetic blend. One time I couldn't find it and put in Mobil 1 full synthetic instead. Used oil like crazy until I switched back. The level normally didn't drop between oil changes but with full synth it lost a quart (25% of my capacity!) I have no idea of the mechanics or chemistry of it but that is what I observed.

My dealer has been using synthetic blend per spec, so I'm going to continue with the same thing on my own oil changes.

Now that I have the PP2, I have to use 91+, but even before I did, I always got premium. And I always use Pennzoil Ultra Platinum; with Amazon subscribe & save, I pay under $7/qt, so my oil changes cost around $60. I see them as relatively small expenses to make sure I'm using a high quality product.

yea dealer use 5w-20. Everytime i go to the service dept they always say synthetic blend should be fine and its in the manual booklet.

full synthetic can run 10k miles or 1yr right? my service dept told me 7.5k or 6 months.

do you notice any change using diff oils? (performance wise)

In my personal case, I have used Full and Semi Synthetic with both 93 and 87 octane. I daily drive my car to work and take it on long distance trips monthly.

I have personally noticed 0 difference between any of those combinations.

To get full power benefits of the 5.0, use premium gas. If not, then you'd be just as happy with a V6.

For oil, there are several benefits of synthetic.
-longer drain intervals (15k/1 yr with a premium synthetic as long as you're not tracking it)
-withstands higher temps and can run cooler
-better engine wear if you plan to keep the car a long time
-fuel economy

I used Amsoil Signature Series for years, but recently switched to Pennzoil Ultra Platinum. Both are full syn. As was posted above, Amazon has it on subscribe & save so it's not bad on the wallet. Oil samples I've seen are excellent. So far, the car seems to like it.

I think there's a section here devoted to nothing but oil choices, as it's a hotly debated topic. But there's three basic options;

1. Use the OEM oil, and change it when the OLM tells you to.
2. Use fully synthetic oil, change it when the OLM tells you to, and take better care of your motor.

Not necessarily. The OLM kicks in around a year / 10k miles. At least it did for mine. I've ran oil samples to 19k and still had life left in previous vehicles. I wouldn't recommend that anyone stretches that long without sampling, but it can be done with no adverse affects. That was on Amsoil Signature Series.
