Look at what came out of my oil catch can!

These are pics of what I removed from my UPR oil catch can after approximately 3,000 miles. Needless to say I was a bit surprised. Many of the pics I have seen of oil caught in cans are what looks like semi-clean oil. This was disgusting... lol. I assume this is normal?

I have to say I'm very impressed with the UPR system. I double checked the line going to the intake manifold after dumping out this mess and it's clean and dry as a whistle.

Doesn't look right, it should just be oil that looks used, your pic denotes moisture mixed with oil. I'd be concerned!

Looks like coolant is getting into your oil. Not good.

E85 ? Mine was a little milky with E85 but not that bad.

No E85, but that's coming up on the horizon. I was concerned with this at first, but the car has used very little coolant and the oil looked good when I changed it.

After thinking about it, I believe it may be condensation from hot crank case vapors condensing when entering a relatively cooler catch can. The can is large and mounted up front next to the radiator. It would take longer to heat up and reach enging bay temps compared to where some of the other cans are mounted.

Do you take a lot of short trips? That's a lot of condensation in the oil, possibly coolant too. Check your coolant level.

I use a JLT and mine looks like regular oil, that doesn't look right.

What kind of driving do you do, short trips where the oil never gets up to temp?

Like I said, coolant level is fine. Most trips are 20 miles or less and mostly freeway. It's just 1.5 easy miles to the freeway for the warm up and away I go. The oil is always in the green by the time I reach it. It has been on a couple aggressive runs with some of the locals, but other than that the driving has been fairly easy on the car.

Everything else checks out fine. I'm going to put in a call to UPR tomorrow, but I still think it's condensation. The car stays in a cool garage. I think what's happening is that it takes a while for that large can to come up to engine bay temps when on the freeway and the hot crank case vapors condense when they first enter it.

Mine has looked like during the colder days. I check mine about every 3rd or 4th fill up. It's definitely just condensation. M-F, I commute a total of 18 miles a day. I try to wait until I get to 180* ECT before I head out but that's only if I can get out the door on time.

Is the can aluminum?
Might just be from cooling down/heating up differently
Try the plastic ford racing one, it sits close to the engine.
My x5 had the same issue, jus gatta drive her harder and keep her hot.

Yes, it's aluminum. I'm not complaining, I just want to double check with UPR that this is not unusual. It's not a DD car. I've been setting it up to start running HPDE's.
