Since new my GT/PP has had a "nibble" going into second gear. It doesn't make a noise like a grind, but it makes you feel like the synchros aren't doing their job. It's almost like the gear engages partially, pops out, then goes back in.

This of course seems like one of several common issues with the MT82. Should I take it to the dealer, or just try swapping the gear oil out for BG? The BG fluid is around $100 shipped from Optimum, which seems pretty steep to me.

BG Fluid helps a lot. It nearly eliminates the nibble when the trans is cold, and it's gone when the fluid is fully warm. The kit from Optimum should be $85 with the pump included. No brainer.

I have the same issue.
dealership says "no fault found"
I will have to show up in the morning after my car has been parked there overnight to show them, most likely.

In the end I believe this is just the way the trans is and Ford can't/won't do anything about it. We'll probably just have to invest in new fluid and maybe and MGW shifter to make it better.

I upgraded the fluid and changed the tranny mount.
Still does the "nibble" when cold.
Gone after 5 minutes of driving.

That's just cold oil... any oil.

The nibble you feel is the shifting collar turning the blocker ring to align with the dogteeth on the gear. You can feel this more in some transmissions than others.

on a related note, grinding gears is a misnomer in a constant-mesh transmission. The chatter you feel/hear is the bronze blocker ring doing its job. This part will eventually wear out, but it's usually integrated with the synchro ring... so they get replaced together.

If you are actually grinding gears in a constant-mesh transmission... rebuild it.

I go about a mile before trying to make a quick 1-2 shift. In fact, my first shift in the morning is slow and deliberate. Might as well, in a neighborhood where I have to go slow anyway.

With my car it never goes away, no matter how long you drive. Almost every 1->2 upshift you'll feel a few bumps through the shifter and then it'll engage. You have to shift really slowly for it to not happen.

A little bit is normal. The gears are bigger on the MT82 because it's torque handling so you will feel the more nibble than say a light duty gearbox.
My 3rd gear nibble a bit but so did the transmission in my RX-8.
