I want to replace the factory speakers and possibly couple of subs. I search around, seems like it is a pain to do. Curious if anyone has done it and was it worth it? I need more thump and highs!

Tweeter and door speaker replacement is fairly easy.
Adding a sub will require proper power from the battery, so a bit involved.
All depends on your defenition of " a pain"

And of course, your budget.

I replaced my speakers with 6-3/4" Rockford punch speakers as well as my tweeters. For the sub I have the p300-12 powered sub. I ended up installing an amp for my speakers and proceeded to install the Scosche Kit with the Pioneer 4200nex receiver. It wasn't until I did everything that I was finally happy with the sound (I started with the powered sub which quenched my thirst for a little while)

I installed everything myself and it's been over 20 years since I did any stereo work. Spent the weekend installing everything and couldn't be happier. The down side is I spent about $1500 but I now have a stereo That puts a smile on my face almost as much as driving the car itself :D

Just to be clear the head unit situation is a category 17 shitshow hurricane. I'm talking of epic proportions like those storms on Jupiter that are the size of this earth. We have overpriced, lackluster shitty tablets running outdated android software with no RCA's and displays in a foreign language with more bugs than the amazon rain forest and no customer support except to wait a week for a virtual fuck you. Another option is to buy a $600 dash kit just for the luxury of running an aftermarket head unit.

Or you can keep your factory head unit and go the signal processing/dsp route and spend more of your budget on better equipment. Numerous ways to go and many members here are running some damn fine setups. Post your goals exactly and you'll find this community will be pleased to steer you in the right direction. Good luck shopping. There is nothing like having a great sound system in a Mustang.

Just an FYI the 10.2 and Tesla head units have RCAs.

Get a Metra or Scosche kit and install an aftermarket unit like pioneer. Get a front component set and an amp. Disconnect the rears. Then see how much is leftover for a sub and amp.

If you don't know how to install stereos it's a pain. Any decent shop can do it.

I went with a complete rockford setup. Rockford components up front and rockford primes in the rear. A rockford prime 400x4 for the speakers. A P3 with a 750 mono. My shop did everything pains about $1000 for the entire setup plus install. I watched them do the install. They did all the lineouts from the deck. It seems like the rear speakers are the hardest. Everything else is straightforward

Installing subs and amp took about 1.5 hours. Hardest part is removing front passenger side wheel to run power cable through firewall. Other then that, you connect to a ground under the trunk. Connect power on wire to wire set running to the deck lid. I just used a multimeter and found one with 12v while ignition is on. Wire Line Output Converter to rear deck speaker and wire to the amp. Screw amp to box, slide box in, connect all wires to amp and done.

Sounds amazing compared to stock.
